I'm currently feeding Nature's Variety Instinct Grain Free because it is listed as being low carb from catinfo.org. My cat has been in the 200's even with an insulin increase. Now I'm trying to find out for myself the carb content and I'm having a hard time. Does anyone know or have a reliable calculation method?

Thanks. I saw the values Dr. Pierson had listed which is why I bought the food but Tux's numbers have been high even with an increase in dose. I sent Nature's Variety a message so I could get their values first hand. I haven't heard from them yet.

I hope you get a reply from Nature's Variety soon; some companies are reluctant to give out that information. I wonder how long it takes for the lower carb food to make any difference? How long has your Tux eaten NV(the reason I ask is NV appears to be very low carb and I am trying lower carb choices myself) ?

just fyi, not all cats need to get to a zero % carb food.....
I've seen a few who do better on some carbs.....
turned out mine does better on 8% then 0%....

you just have to figure out how carb sensitive your particular kitty is.
You may just need to give the insulin a chance to help .... you had a few greens.... obviously you want more... the more green, the better....

From my own cat's response, I think the Nature's variety are still as low as they claimed.... and I am pretty sure that dr. pierson had the as feds....
someone did.... back when the food came on the market....

perhaps you will get lucky and they will share the info with you again.....

The response I received from Nature's Variety today:
"Julie,
Our Instinct Canned Cat foods are 95% meat and liver, 5% fruits and vegetables. The as fed carbohydrate level is 2%.

Sincerely,

My cat is sensitive to carbs. His numbers are lower when he is fed 2% or less even before we started insulin.
