Nature's Instinct Food

Has anyone done the manufacturer's calculations on Nature's Instinct raw, kibble or canned food? The info. on their site looks good, but it's expensive and I wanted to check with you "experts" before investing in something harmful.

My 3 cats are currently on FF, but I use the rabbit/duck frozen medallions when I'm going to be away from home all day. I like the raw, but have never used the kibble or canned -- supposed to be 95% meat.

Nature's Variety Instinct? The canned is listed here and on Binky's list. The dry is on Binky's dry food list under Others and listed as Nature's Variety Raw Instinct.

All the Instinct canned varieties are low carb :thumbup The dry food is low in carbs (7%) but it's still dry which can still keep blood glucose levels high and can cause other health issues as described at Catinfo.org. You can temporarily use the dry food as a transition to get your cat eating a canned food only diet. That's what I did with my diabetic.

The Instinct canned for dogs is the *exact* same formula as the cat one. It comes in a larger sized can which is more economical if you have multiple cats to feed.

There are Nature's Variety coupons for canned, dry, and raw in the Supply Closet board :smile:

Do you mean that you leave raw food out all day? Thawed raw food shouldn't be left out for more than 30 minutes or so. I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving a frozen raw nugget in a timed feeder, even with ice pack, all day either. Canned food is a beter and safer choice to leave in a timed feeder during the day.

however, if you do leave raw food out, get some ice packs and place the food dish on top of the ice packs - this will help keep it cold longer and delay the bacteria growth that can be a concern and why the recommendation to not leave it out more than 30 minutes.

Not to worry....they start licking it the minute it put it down and keep checking until it's gone....never had a problem. But, I appreciate your advice.

Seriously?! Is there any reason not to use the bigger cans for 1 cat?
