I have a question for the other PZI users.
When do you guys' furry friends tend to hit nadir? Like how many hours after dosing.
I am not at home right now and my husband is handling Tater's testing and dosing and he's been returning some unusual numbers.
For example the two days ago, he was at 455 before morning shot, 4 ours later he was at 411, before his PM shot he was at 85.
This is not how he had been testing and I am just wondering what might be going on...

I am with Robin, It sounds like the dose it too high...
I would reduce and keep testing
Do you have a SS yet? what dose are you giving

I do have a SS.
We had been doing 1u most times but he's been bouncing a bit.
Here are his #'s for the last 4 days:

01/26/12 AMPS 585 (1.00 u) PMPS 339 (0.50 u)
01/27/12 AMPS 460 (1.00 u) PMPS 89 (0.0 u)
01/28/12 AMPS 455 (0.50 u) (5hr)411 PMPS 85 (0.0 u)
01/29/12 AMPS 111 (0.0 u)

WAIT A SEC!!!
so let me understand this,
his pmps lastnight was 85 so your hubby did not shoot any insulin
and the amps was 111 and your hubby did not shoot...
so this could be a really good thing here...if I undertand correctly
has you hubby tested this afternoon?
I am thinking that the .50 is still too much...if he is gonna need any insulin
If .50 brought his from the 400's to 85 preshot
I am thinking you need to start looking at micro dosing if needed
BUT lets take it one step at a time
do you have a mid day number today?

I will see if I can get him to test Potatoman again.
When microdosing, do you use the u100 syringes so you can accurately give smaller amounts?

Unfortunately I am not familiar with micro dosing,
butI always use the U100 needles as they are easier for
my old eyes to see and make out a dose
I will be waiting for hopefully an updated number this afternon

OK so he went awhile without insulin so this is very good
For tonight, I think I would cut the dose in half depending on what the preshot is
so maybe shoot .25 and if possible get a mid cycle test
Will you hubby be testing and shooting tonight around 8pm?
If so I can log on to see what the preshot is...
But I would think if it is in the 400's I would shoot .25 and test mid cycle if possible

Unfortunately he wont be able to test mid cycle over night, or likely tomorrow. Tater is gonna have to do with being tested 2x a day, pre-shot. :(
We will have a test value for Tater for this evening though. I'll tell hubby to shoot .25u.

ok, believe me I understand!
I would shoot the .25 adn as long as you get a preshot that is ok
I am sure he knows that if the preshot is under 200 ish, dont shoot

I agree, especially since you can't get any mid cycle tests in you should be safer with the .25u.

If you do switch to the U100 syringes don't forget to print out the conversion chart and have it handy for every shot.

I've already got the conversion chart printed out for him.
I am starting to get a bit nervous about Tater's sensitivity to the insulin.
Hope he evens out soon. nailbite_smile nailbite_smile nailbite_smile

On PZI, Bob usually seemed to nadir around +5. However, I did not do very much mid-cycle testing (I wasn't a member here yet, and my vet told me to only worry about preshots and to run a curve "once every ten days or so". Bad advice, but I'll plead ignorance.

The times I did do a curve, he hit nadir prior to +6, and it seemed like he only got about 10 hours out of a dose of PZI, which is "normal". Prozinc lasts 10-14 hours, according to the Prozinc website.
