Last night, I came home to a seriously hypo, barely-alive cat. When I tested him, my meter read "LO." A friend drove us to the ER while I rubbed maple syrup on his gums. When they tested him there, he was up to 37. Phew...
Myles was diagnosed a year ago in March. We started on Lantus and then switched to Lev. I wanted to do tight regulation but gave up on that idea ages ago because his numbers fluctuate so much. He's gone way low before but nothing as dramatic as last night.
The ER doc did blood tests and everything is normal, except he has pancreatitis. She's sending the blood out to determine whether the pancreatitis is chronic. I suspect it is.
I'll be asking for dosing advice later. But for now, I'd like to know what to do about the pancreatitis. What, if anything, do I do about his diet? He eats mostly Soulistic Chicken Dinner In Gravy and Soulistic Moist and Tender Salmon Dinner in gravy. Both are very low carb. He also eats some Fancy Feast pates. How will I know if he's having a flare?
I'd like to get this under control somehow, but have no idea how.
This has been a very unhappy spring and summer, and I haven't done a great job at keeping his spreadsheet up to date. I test at least twice a day, sometimes more. He was on 5.5u of Lev until the day before last when he went too low. I reduced his dose to 5u yesterday morning, and he hypoed last night.
