I haven't been on this board for a very long time, but I always value the advice because in the past, one of my kitty's life was saved by information I received on this board.
Well, I'm back. One of my kitties, Jax, was just recently diagnosed with severe pancreatitis.
His symptoms: Suddenly this morning: vomiting, diarrhea (& straining to have a BM); lethargic.
Took him to the vet: They did blood work; sub q fluids (to check urinary blockages - there were none). Couldn't do xray without sedation. Jax gets way too "excited" at the vets. Blood work was ok except for a few areas: cholesterol, borderline thyroid, and I forget the other 2.
I brought him home, and he continued to vomit and strain to have a BM. Brought him back a few hours later; they sedated him and did an ultrasound and found fluid in his stomach and what may have been an abdominal obstruction, and a very high fever - 103. That's when they did surgery to explore what was going on.
Diagnosis: severe pancreatitis attack.
He is presently staying at the vet's for I don't know how long until he's better.
My question? I know pancreatitis is awful and difficult to treat. I know he'll need to have a special diet.
I'd like to know what others here do with their kitties who have pancreatitis issues.
My kitties only eat canned food: Wellness - 1/2 of a 5 oz can in the morning; Fancy Feast (low carb varieties) - 1/2 a 3 oz can in the evening. At bedtime we give them a "treat": about 10 pieces of dry food (I call it kitty crack!)
Can you help?
