tom scared the crap out of me...damn, i hope i got it out. jeez i hate being alone in an emergency

trying to catch my breath and calm down..then i'll splain. i wish robin would call me. don't have her phone # anywhere, can't find it. bad end to the day and work...then this.

ok...calmed down somewhat. i was sitting here at the computor and tom is about 15 feet away from me eatting his dinner when suddenly i hear his tail thumping really hard on the floor. then he backs up and his body is totally contorted...i ran over and he start screaming and he never even meows.. i was freaking out. i was afraid to lift him. he kept contorting his body and trying to move but unable to move..trying to do something but i could'nt tell what it was he wanted to do. he made his way under the daybed and squirming...i realized he was unable to move the way he wanted to. i was afraid to pick him up.
i got him out from under the bed and he allowed me to examine him..all the while he was crying and i'm thinking holy **** i don't even know where the er vet is..i have there # tho.
i gently feel all around his body. i find a stick like little thing in his gut area, i pull, a needle is 3/4 of the way in his gut somewhere. no blood nothing. i don't sew, i don't have needles, i don't know how or when it happened.
we both lay there breathing heavy for awhile. he gets up. i watch to see if it's really all over, he goes to finish dinner.
now cleaning himself.
sorry.

i know, how did he get this needle. i think he picked it up outside and it was just kind of stuck on his belly and then when he squatted down to eat he pushed it all the way in...ugg.

OMG, I would have been terrified. Maybe you brought something in on your shoe and didn't know it. Glad he's eating now and feeling better.

it's amazing...that needle in his gut was really the problem. he seems just fine now. he poo'd and is looking for his evening pokey and rabbit desert. on tomorow's list of things to do. have directions to er written and placed in car.
also amazed i found the needle. like finding a needle in a haystack since i did'nt even know what i was looking for. i thought it would be an internal lump or something i would feel, or a muscle out of place.

That's awesome. I'm so glad he's doing better. I know I would've been freaking out too. Good idea getting the directions for the ER ready. Hopefully you'll never need them, but at least you know the directions are there if you ever need them.

I'm glad your Tom is ok!

Perhaps you should keep the needle you pulled out in case in the near future you do decide to bring him in for a related checkup?

not only do i wish i'd kept it...it's in the trash who knows where...but i can;t even remember what part of his belly area i pulled it from...it all happened so fast.
one thing i feel sure about is where ever it came from he pushed it in when he settled his body down to eat...he was fine until he started eatting. i think he leaned into it.
if it would have gone in any further i would have had no idea what it was or anything. it would have required xrays on a very pained kitty.
btw, tom's a rough tough fighter and does not show pain...he is really tough so wherever that needle was it must have been hitting a very tender spot. i could tell he was sooo scared and in so much pain.
i'm so honored that he trusted me to pull it out, and even examine him.
when we both lay there panting we looked at each other...we've done this before, the mommie to the rescue thing. i can't help but see love in his eyes. so sweet.

Thank goodness you got it out! I'd keep an eye on him for a while to make sure it didn't spear anything vital and keep note of where it went it.

Not sure how 'superstitious' you are but voodoo [I don't think practitioners of voodoo would call themselves "superstitious"] was the first image that popped into my brain. Hope you haven't been making any enemies lately ;-)

You've been reading about F - he has a BB pellet in him that always shows up in x-rays. Nothing to do about that. :-x Some people have some mixed up priorities...

Maybe it's about time you had the "no more surprises for mom please" talk with TomTom?

Lori!

Please be careful when you take out that trash! You do not have to go through what Tom did to be a good mom! You are a good mom... Oh!! Just please be careful with that bag!!

My heart is racing just reading this Lori...OMG...my thought are of so many things that COULD have happened but luckily, didn't! Whew. How totally weird to have found that needle....but the poor lil guy must have been so surprised at that horrible pain...so glad it worked out okay for you both....give him some scritches from us okay? (((Lori & Tom)))

whoa...tom tom...my bean just told me about the scare you had...just hearing about it scared me! i'm not making light of your situation, buddy, but my bean believes sometimes laughter can be healing, so when you feel better, i'm coming over and you and i are gonna watch this show:

feel better my friend!
