Ok i have wrote some post how i am changing my cats food and this will be her second day on low card food... I bought her fancy feast with all carbs under 5% and good high protein....

I received the meter today and tested her....
Well it was a little hard at first because my cat was wondering why i was touching her ear as much lol.. Then it got alittle hard when i tried it with the pen and nothing happened (not even at the highest number) .... i tried it three times and by that point my cat wanted out...
I finally just took off the pen cap and just went with the needle to the ear...
SUCCESS but my cat wasn't happy about it (neither was i because i ended up pricking my self as well)
BUT i did it...

Now the reading was 362 ( i know she could have had some stress from me annoying her ) but how bad is that?
I know its only been two days since her food was changed .. should i wait till Saturday? Give her about 4 days all together and see how it looks?

And by the way her new vet appt with a new doc is on the 15 =) Then we can get some insulin and start her home testing... that gives her about 5-6 days on the new food and hopefully it will be lower by the appt... (CROSSING FINGERS)

Welcome to the Vampire Club! (decoder ring coming in the mail  ). Congrats on getting your first test. That's not an awful number (400-500s are scary - 300s are diabetic but not on the super high end. ). It may be that the food takes a few days to fully kick in. I'd keep getting some tests and see if she comes down more.

Great job! We knew you could do it!

Congratulations and welcome to the vampire club!

367 is middle of the road - not horrible, but there will be sugar in the urine at this level. approx 240 is the "renal threshold" where sugar is spilling into the urine. Healthiest to remain below 240 -- a goal for regulated diabetic kitties.

Keep up the good work!

Woo-hoo! Great job on getting that first test! It only gets easier from here. Don't forget lots of treats for kitty (and give yourself a treat for successfully completing a test, too!). I don't have much advice for you, but I wanted to give three cheers for the excellent work! 362 is not so wonderful, but not a horrble start. It can take a few days to work the carbs out of the system. Let's hope the food change alone brings her down a bit more.

Way to go! :RAHCAT

Thank so much everyone!! I'm going to boil some chicken today (SHE LOVES IT) for some treats... i heard its good for them because of the protein?

Ill take the next test tomorrow and give her some time ... Shes still alittle annoyed lol
Any where else besides the ear i can poke her? or is the ear the best way?

I was thinking maybe next time ill do it when shes sleeping ... she goes into such a deep sleep she never feels me bothering her hehe...
