So I went to Walmart tonight and purchased the ReliOn Micro. Needs less blood, uses cheap strips. It has a metered control to gauge how deep you want the lancet to go. It also has this thingy for alternate testing sites. I guess it doesn't let the lancet go as deep.

Came home and tried to test Kate's BG. I tried her ear... rookie mistake... let's just say that MY BG is fine! ohmygod_smile So now that Kate and I have essentially shared needles, I got a great reading for my BG, but nadda for hers. And she was SOOOO good. she just sat there and let me mess with her ears. I tried to find a spot about 4 times and she never flinched! She is such a good kitty!

As soon as the lancet hit my finger I said, "Oh yeah... they told me to move my finger!"

In anycase, I want to get a reading tomorrow morning before I feed her and so on thru the day... Is there a best way to do this? Are there other sites to test? Advice please!!

Go to youtube and search for "feline diabetes home testing" Lots of vids, and some were made by fdmb members. I can't get links to work with my "smart" phone:-) ...

It helps to put something behind the ear so you don't stick yourself too. You might want to experiment with the setting too.
You want a droplet for the test but you don't really want to pierce the ear. ( no earrings  )

It is easier to test yourself and find the right setting.
be sure and reward your cat for participation even when you fail. An association with getting a treat helps them cooperate.
There were several posts on this very topic today at this link. You might find something useful.
