Cooper is a 75 lb Goldendoodle
What should I do if anything?
UGH
Had a gas leak in stove, not feeling well and now this.... I am about to Scream.
Hell who am I kidding I jsut smacked him with the broom now he is hiding in the bathroom. LOL
Kids and pets. :P

Hopefully 2.25 units won't affect a 75 pound dog too much. If it were me, I would feed him a little extra though, just in case. He did not eat the needle did he?

OMG! What a day!!!   I would smack him with a broom too.   Maybe you should test him? I hope the needle passes through ok.

Lantus Dose for a dog that size is roughly 18 units twice a day....(.23u/lb). IMHO ONLY as I'm not a vet, the syringe needle is more worrying than the insulin. You can check the dogs bg too - I check all mine every 3-4 months. Easiest place is the inside of their lip. Just roll the inside of the lip out, dry area with paper towel and lance - no nerves there to react. Numbers should be about same as cats. Karo works for dogs too.

HUGS!

No he did not eat it and does not smell like insulin at all in his mouth or around it.
Just called the Emergency Vet and of course they were short and non informative. Just bring him in. Yeah for a butt load of $. Its past hours here.
Well I can test him just need to find out what range a dog needs to be in? anyone know? I will feed him more he just ate a while ago.
Yes a messed up day for sure.
OMG I could kill him ( not really But yeah)
Will keep ya posted.

I wouldn't take him in yet either, especially if he didn't swallow the needle. Our neighbor's mini pin (maybe 10 pounds) gets 8U BID.

So will this once getting insulin (if he did) which I am not convinced??? As it smells so bad I would smell it in his mouth or face hairs. But maybe not?
Will this Change his system ? Make him diabetic? anything?
I fed him again and he is eating I will check in a bit as it just happened so nothing would be weird yet would it?
Calgon TAKE me AWAY! UGH
LOL

It is at 68 he had 2 meals about 1 hour ago and then 2nd one 30 mins ago. That's one thing don't usually have to force feed a dog. LOL
I am going to have a little Spamoni Ice Cream, Share a bit with Coop. :) The little bit of sugar will help right ?
Please say prayers he will be ok. I dont have the $ for Emergency vet bills. But will if i need to as he is my baby too.
Thanks for the info and just being here for me again as always.
Hugs Kelly

I think he'll be okay. And the 68 is probably normal for him. I would just give him the ice cream and maybe watch him.
I'm glad he didn't eat the needle.

Thanks Dyana
All you guys are the best. We are going to eat ice cream now and chill out. I will check him again before bed and at the 6ish hour.

Whew, SO glad he didn't eat the needle the little s**t... ;-)

Insulin's a hormone that's naturally in his body, it will be absorbed just like the natural insulin his pancreas is making.

Range for dogs is about the same as normal cats. All mine read in the double digits from high 40's to Chloe around 80 - she's a lab/GShepherd mix with IBD from a twisted stomach. I haven't done the 2 blonde pups yet, they're about a year old.

HUGS! And another one!

Insulin is normally secreted into the blood stream, not the digestive tract.

The reason it is not given orally is because it breaks down and doesn't work (much to the dismay of numerous human diabetics).

So unless he accidentally stabbed himself and got some under the skin, he isn't going to have a problem from the insulin.

Awesome to know I don't think he is smart enough to give himself a shot. He is doing well playing chewing on a bone.
We had 2 dinners and Ice Cream. Snuggle time and love. Cats had shrimp and fish treats. We should all be good.Lets hope:)
Checked him again a min ago and it is 67 so no change at all.
Double checked and the whole syringe was there and the needle.
Yes to the Little **** as well. Oh I tell ya. cat(2)_steam
