Last night (Sat) I observed my cat Sprinkles area all around her rectum has major fur loss, swelling and redness. Originally I thought she might have just been dirty from a loose bowel movement but then I saw the rest. I took warm wet paper towels and tried to remove the debris that was stuck to the fur that was there, she is normally a very skittish cat but she really freaks out now if I go anywhere near it. I managed to get some Neosporin with pain relief on the whole area. Later (2 AM) I saw that there was a small turd stuck to the area so I got that off and applied more Neosporin. Friday I had found a large hairball in the basement near the litter boxes, then later that day she threw up no hairball very liquid. Today she looks the same in that area, I put some hydrocortisone ointment as much as she would let me. Poor thing is so miserable, I will get her in to the vet first thing tomorrow but I'm wondering if anyone has ever seen anything like this? I did change her food due to my Rocky's new diabetic diagnosis and thought maybe a food allergy? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I've never had this particular problem or rather my kitties havent. :p It does sound like a Vet visit is in order.
Sending healing vines for Sprinkles :bighug:

I sure you will get more replies .;)

My BB girl had an anal gland rupture a couple years ago, which sounds like what Sprinkles might have going on. The vet expressed what was left, applied some topical antibiotic cream, and sent me home with oral antibiotics. She healed up really fast, and now I keep an eye on her. When she stops wanting her tail touched then it's time to get them squeezed.

Thank you! I just tried to get her in to the vet they can't see her till tomorrow , so I guess I will put more hydrocortisone on her bum :(

My Marlin had a large anal gland abscess several years ago that needed expressing, and cleaning out his open wound  Looked terrible, but with cleaning regularly with a special antiseptic soap (from the vet), he healed up nice. Some kitties just have a predisposition to anal gland issues and some need expressing at the vet every so often.
