After having black diarrhea he has been doing great on his bland boiled chicken diet. Is it ok for him to have boiled chicken as his regular food? Is it not good enough for a cat's diet?

Glad to hear your cat is doing better. I'm no diet expert but long term, the bland boiled chicken is not a complete diet. The one obviously missing ingredient is taurine. You can get pre packaged additives used by those who make their own raw/semi cooked diets at some pet stores to provide the taurine and whatever else might be needed. There is info available at http://catinfo.org/.

I feed my Fritz homemade raw chicken, with one meal of Fancy Feast Classic.
If you are interested in keeping him on a chicken diet the link Linda gave you is Lisa Pierson recipe. It's easy to make and my Fritz loves it. I also order raw frozen rabbit from whlefoods4pets.com for Mary she raises them.
You can buy the ingredients to add to the chicken or you can buy pre measured packets. Please don't ever feed cats cooed bones as they can splinter and cause problems.
Can I ask you why your kitty had black diarrhea? Fritz started having black diarrhea so I took him to the vet and as soon as we had a plan to take a sample in he started having normal poop for two times this morning it was black again but not diarrhea.

@William Rufo
My understanding is that 20% of the diet can be plain meat as long as the rest of the diet provides the other nutrients the cat needs (ie. is a complete food). So, hopefully, your kitty doesn't have to give up the chicken he likes so much. :)
