my bailey hasn't poopied in 4 days.although since having the diabetes its been 2/3 days each time he goes.its not hard when he goes.should I be worried!!!.
sorry to ask this question but I know all you guys wont find it a silly one so had to ask!
still quite high with the blood readings but all been in the pink which is better than the reds the previous week.slowly but surely upping the lantus.graduated onto wet food this week so do you think this has affected his bowel movements!

Didn't you just change over his diet? If you just transitioned him from dry to canned, that may be the reason.

You may want to add water to his canned food. That may help. You could also a little bit of oil (e.g., fish oil, olive oil) to his food.

At least here in the US, many people use Miralax as a laxative. I don't know what the equivalent is in the UK, though.

is olive oil ok with him being diabetic.i worry about everything im giving him! yeah hes on wet food. chicken now with a 1% carb.when he goes he goes but it takes days.every day is a step forward!!!id just really be happy with some yellow numbers next!!!

Anna - in Canada, Miralax is called Restoralax, so there might be something equivalent in the UK under a different name. The chemist may be able to help you find the equivalent.

Olive oil is fine. I add fish oil and sometimes a bit of virgin cold pressed coconut oil. It also helps with hairballs.

Keep in mind too that there will be less poo... switching from dry to wet means less intake of food.... and less output of useless ingredients like corn!

Anne,if you are getting a laxative either from the vet or pharmacy make sure it does not contain sugar.

Just had a thought,Is it the Encore that Bailey is eating? If it is Applaws has the exact same ingredients, the do one with chicken and pumpkin,I have read on the forum that many people give pumpkin for constipation,Pets at Home (near Dunhelm) stock all flavours. Good to see him in the pink, come on Bailey, lets see some yellow. D

You can give him pumpkin or squash as long as there is no sugar added. In the US, we have baby food squash with no sugar added that works quite well.

thanks guys! hes poopie this morning.i will try that food diane as he loves the encore.ive also ordered those supplements.yep his numbers are slowly but surely coming down.we had a blue last night :-D

Hooray for the blue! And the poopie!

My cats get pumpkin every day, it helps for diarrhea as well as constipation. I buy canned pumpkin, no additives, and freeze it in mini ice cube trays. Each cat gets a cube every day.

If you have a problem again the generic name for Miralax is Polyethelene glycol. You might have better luck asking for that. Here it is over the counter, no prescription needed. We use about 1/8th of a teaspoon.

thankyou for the advice.i think the first thing we'll try is the encore with the pumpkin in as he loves his encore and after such a transition from dry food to wet this week i don't want to mix it about too much just yet.hes a fussy little guy!so weve done well so far!
