Michelle, Angel is beautiful. I'm very happy for you and her. Oh yeah, I believe Doodle had a hand in this, he wants you to be happy again, and he knows what a good kitty mama you will be. :-D
 
What happy news!! Angel is gorgeous and I'm so glad you have rescued this sweet girl. I definitely think Doodle played a big part in this. Congratulations, especially on a day when we need something to smile about.

I had seen the announcement on Angel through FB, and DCIN. I am so elated that it was you that has given her her forever home. Congrats!, and I hope we see you here in LL!

I'm actually not sure what dose to start her on. 0.5u? is that the normal dose? or 1u?
Doodle didn't play by the rules... and it's been so long since I gave a "first dose".
Any suggestions? Maybe I should read all the stickies again as if I were a newbie...

She'll be on lev. and she's never been on insulin.

Her BG was around 390 several times in the last month
 
Hi Michelle... we are all excited with you for the arrival of Angel. Such a perfect name.

As for the starting dose on Lev, you can do the calculation of 0.25 unit of Lantus x IDEAL body weight in kg.
To convert lbs. to kilograms: lbs / 2.2 = kg
For example an 8 lb cat would be; 8 divided by 2.2 = 3.63 kg. So 3.63 kg (ideal weight) x 0.25 unit Lantus = 0.909 units starting dose.... or round it up to 1.00 unit.

THEN take this into consideration:
[Univ. of Queensland, (Roomp & Rand) noted that "Mean median maximum dose in cats on detemir is about 30% less than for glargine." University of Queensland link


OR you can do what I did with BigMac and simply start Angel on 0.50u of Levemir. :lol: It is easy to go up by 0.25u as needed and there was less math involved. Hahaha! :lol:
 
Hi Michelle.....yay on Angel being almost home!!! We started Zoe on 0.5 unit lantus and worked our way up....do you know if Angel has been on LC or HC food? As you know, that makes a difference.... So happy for ALL of you!!!!! :mrgreen:
