Just got off the phone with the vet, Ms Musette is going into surgery to have an e-tube put in at 4pm today...she still isn't eating on her own although her bloodsugar is great at 123 for an amps reading to they didn't give insulin today beacuse they don't want to drop her too low, especially with her going under this afternoon. They have confirmed that she is in DKA, but even the vet's can seem to be able to figure out why.

They also suspect that she is in the middle of a p-titus flare up so they have started her on Bupe and antibiotics (forgot to ask which one, but its all going in her IV from the way the vet sounds.

So it seems she is determined to teach me yet a new step to this complicated dance ...lol Now I get to learn...feeding tubes. Maxwell got to teach me testing and how a cat goes into remission, Musette refine my testing skills, and taught me injections, and curves...now she is going to teach me feeding tubes, and Autumn in the beginning taught me sub-q fluids...And I'm paying for vet tech school why? I should have just adopted more tortie diabetics...I could save a bunch of money but be completely gray by the time I'm 50 (which is next may..heheh)

Iam glad that the vet had found out the cause of the not eating & Musette is in recovery.
Yeah, teaching on the feeding tube! Have fun!

Well we think we now know why it happened just still not the what or the how...it looks like from what any of us can figure out and how fast she crashed is that she either ate or licked something that was toxic to her liver...but I'll be danged if I can figure out what that would be unless she somehow licked some of her daddy's work clothes but even that seems like a stretch because he is very careful with them when he changes and usually puts them in the hamper immediately and sticks his work boots in the closet so no one can sniff, lick, or nibble on them...so even if we don't know how it happened DH has decided that from now on it is straight downstairs to change and he will start using the basement closet in the laundry room to store even the clean clothes since none of the cats are allowed in there.

There is one bright spot in this whole mess...so far she has been off insulin for 2 days now because her BGs are within normal range, even with all that is going on with her. Once they started her on the pain meds for the p-titis her BGs went to normal and have stayed there. I'm so confused, I really wish she would read the manuals on how to be a good sugar cat.

It sounds like she's doing her best to become "sugarfree" so she won't need to bother with the manuals!

Any word on when they'll let her come home?

Carl

Well they are saying Tuesday because of the upcoming holiday weekend...I'm telling them on Friday that she will be coming home with me, even if I have to sign her out without medical approval. For the exact same reason...long weekend and this hospital is the only both large and small animal clinic and our state and county fair season is starting as well as being in the height of calving and lambing season. So my line of thinking is you all are going to be busy...I can watch her just as well if not better than you can at home. Plus I truly think she will recover faster if she can be back with her momma, daddy and furry family where there isn't all the stress of the vet office and all those strange sounds and smells and people that are not the momma.

I'm fine with the keeping her there until the end of the week but I want her back with me over the holiday..if they really think they need to see her again on Tuesday, fine. But she is gonna come home with me one way or the other on Friday.
