Well, I hope I have figured out how to work with the spreadsheet, but if you have comments, or see something that looks odd, please let me know. So far, her numbers appear to be going down some, except for yesterday, but I think she may have been eating too much food. She seems to feel better, and boy, now that we are totally on canned - the litter box is a 3x daily thing! At least she's been more in the 200s than the 300s so far.

hi there

you're almost there!
Here's the thing, some of us won't click on a link that we have to download, for safety reason's on our computer's.

If you can, please follow the instructions in this link from the Tech forum Spreadsheet Set Up
You can always post there too for assistance.

Can you edit your subject line like this: 09/19/10 Murphy AMPS # so we can see his numbers today?

Nope I couldnt read it--You can just post a recap of each day in your condo today, and ask for help with your SS-OK??
See Mannie or others for how to do a recap!
Also put into the heading, your number for the day!

Please use the Google spreadsheet setup that's available in the Tech Support Center. Not everyone here uses or even has Excel. The Google document is very easy to use and it will make your SS available to everyone. It also means you will be able to update your SS from any location, not just your home computer.

Also, we have a convention for posting:
date -- cat's name -- BG test data
9/19 Murphy AMPS-#

This makes your numbers easily visible which is particularly important if you have a concern, or we notice something, that requires attention.

MURPHY'S AMPS

Murphy's number b/4 breakfast today was 260. She hovered somewhere in the 300s for most of yesterday, but then starting coming down to high 200s last night. So far, we're seeing some progress.

Here is the link to Friday's Condo for you: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=25184

Hi...nice to see you today. We have so many kitties posting here so to keep things orderly, we link our previous day's post to our first on of the day. That way, anyone can just click on the link and read what transpired the previous day.
Here is your link to yesterday: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=25075http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=25075

We post our header with the date, kitty's name and the AMPS shown...so your header would be
9/17 Murphy AMPS=_____

Here is the link for setting up your SS (spreadsheet) Once you get that attached to your signature, we will be happy to help you each day with Murphy's progress... viewtopic.php?f=9&t=25075 That link was taken from the Tech Support forum....I hope you will be able to do that soon.

I am so happy to see you and Murphy here today, Lisa!

Did you post a condo yesterday?

So, we make slow progress with the spreadsheet, but I'm coming closer to realizing its function. Please let me know if it isn't attached, and then, I will go through tech support to see what I've done wrong.

You know, what truly amazes me, is since Murphy started the insulin, she hardly meows any more?

You are all set now Lisa...can you tell me when Murphy was diagnosed and if you have ever been on any other kind of insulin. Is that a steroid inhalant that she had, and or, is she still on that...and what other meds is she on presently?
Thank you...

I've attached a perfectly healthy kitty, my sissy, Murphy, at the end of 2007 when she was first Dx'd with feline asthma. She had a very short jaunt of a depo injection until I was able to order her inhalers and the Aerokat, but you're looking at a beautiful kitty who had absolutely no other problems, but the feline asthma.

I have kept a spreadsheet on all of Murphy's labs since that date, and she was not diabetic in 2007 or 2008, and at the end of 2008, she still showed normal values on everything. But, in 2009, this is when it starts. I had taken her to a new vet in April 2009, and we were dealing with her MRSA infection. In August, we had already had another bout of that and that's when I mentioned that she was gnawing at her little paws (on the inside of her paws). We drew her senior panels at least 6 times and each time, it showed elevated glucose, amylase and lipase, and a few other weird values. He said she wasn't diabetic, but now that she's in the care of her new vet, we are certain that she has been diabetic since at least June of 2009, and the symptoms came on full blast, extreme urination, ravenous eating, and drinking in the first part of August. I had also mentioned to him (her old vet) that her coat looked abnormal, greasy, spiky hair on the rump, and very dry and scaly. He missed it, she was diabetic, and now we have this. So, because she was untreated and I trusted him, she has went a year with an already compromising asthma problem, and with diabetes, my vet said that untreated it can suppress your immune system, which is why she started getting that nasty d. cati and MRSA and MRSI. Since she's been on insulin though, within 1.5 weeks, after her first check-up, little girl had a beautiful coat, my vet couldn't believe it - said it looked like I had bathed her!

She's very special and I hope I can do everything I can to get her under control. The hours on my spreadsheet are a little over the place except on the weekends, because I'm at work Mon-Fri. Next step, start gradually changing the diet, which I hope to start this week, and I will take 3-4 weeks to do so.

Thanks for switching over to the Google SS.

The next step is to start getting some tests in during the PM cycle. Many cats have lower numbers at night so getting spot checks then is important -- especially if you're not at home during the day to monitor. Remember, Lantus dosing is based on the nadir, not the pre-shot numbers. At the minimum, please try to get a test before you go to bed each night.

The day I took Murphy into the hospital, was 8/24/10. They started her on short-acting insulin for 5-6 days, and then one-two days with Lantus, before I could bring her home.

On the Flovent/Aerokat, she has been on for almost 4 years. Yes, Flovent is an inhaled steroid, but it is not systemic and travels only to the lungs, and is not absorbed by other organs or tissues in the body. And, to think that her old vet wanted to put her on prednisone (when she was already diabetic, which I didn't know and he didn't test), because he though the MRSA kept coming back from the Aerokat mask. There has been so much research in feline asthma and inhaled meds, and I'm so involved in it that it is virtually impossible to become diabetic from it. Had I listened to him, I can't imagine where Murphy would be now with her health.

Her new vet is so wonderful. I really think the panazyme powder is keeping the pancreas sort of out of the situation for now, which is a good thing.

She just ate, and I gave her the Lantus, and I'll wait until 9:30 before I go to bed to check her. I am going to set my alarm for 2:00 a.m. to check again.

L

I see that there is no PMPS in your SS...so maybe you can update that and change your header to read:
8/19 Murphy PMPS_______
Good idea to maybe give a little snack when you get up later, k?
Doing very well...

Oh, that's cuz I hadn't posted that when I sent the email with the spreadsheet. I don't have the glucometer with me, but I believe it was 287.
