Looked at the spreadsheet this am, Carol. It will be interesting to see what today looks like.

I really think 2.25 is your dose. I think he tends to have an immediate reaction and can drop low for a new dose but then he settles in and gives you some nice numbers. Though some people think there is no carry over and that small increases don't make a difference, I think Murphy is the ECID cat that is the exception.

Now watch him prove me wrong. BTW, I'd LOVE that!

I agree with Sue...I think 2.25 is the dose. Murphy likes to be a bit of a puzzle! He's had some good numbers the last couple of days...hopefully he keeps dipping into blues and gets some good healing time in for the pancreas!
 
@Sue and Oliver (GA) @Rachel - I am still confused with shooting into a yellow - should I have given him 2.25 this morning? (I guess we'll soon find out) Some of the posts from last night were a little confusing with slants and sliding scales - I just don't know how to use the preshot reading to figure out what dose to give him - I agree it looks like Murphy's dose is 2.25 when his pre shots are >300, - but when his pre shot is a yellow it seems like it should be lower - I probably lowered it too much - but in reality- I don't think theres much difference between a skinny 2 and 1.75 (at least the way I have been doing it) I'm still so confused
 
2 would certainly have been a safe dose this am. And the 1.75 may stop the bounce. We'll have to wait and see. If you want to do 2 on a yellow and 2.5 on anything pink or higher, I think that is fine.

All of our advice is pretty much flying by the seat of our pants because Murphy definitely marches to a different drummer. It depends on whether you want to push and little and plan to monitor, or be a little more cautious and probably not need to worry. That choice is yours and can vary day to day.....
 
I have been thinking of going to the 100s - do they all come with half marks? I wouldn't know what kind to get - the .3 cc? Also, when I first started, I was so scared of increasing the dose - thank you for prodding me to do it -now I'm ready to push when I can monitor
 
This is copied from a Lantus thread but has all the info. (Lantus is a U100 insulin.) Remember that you need to run off the conversion chart and refer to it daily.

U100 3/10cc syringes with half unit markings are the best to use for fine dosing. BD, Monoject, GNP, and ReliOn are some of the brands available with half unit markings. Needle gauge and length is your preference They come in ½ inch or 5/16 inch needle lengths. Needle gauges 29, 30 or 31 (31 being the thinnest).
 
I ordered my u100s from ADW. I got the shorter needle length but I ended up not liking them...but that was just my personal preference.

I don't THINK they all come with half unit markings...they do offer them with the half units marked but also without so just check to be sure that's the type before ordering.

thanks I know I hate to jinx anything but I'm amazed especially today as I lowered his dose by 0.5 units

I should know this but I don't - I've never seen syringes sold anywhere - I've been buying them on line - do you need a prescription to buy syringes?
 
I don't want to jinx it for you either, I almost didn't post because of that!
The syringes are sold behind the counter- Ask the pharmacist. No prescription needed here, not sure if it's the same in all states.

Hi Carol, I was confused too about syringes and finally got the right ones for me, 1/2 unit markings and the needle is short, I haven't given a fur shot since I started using them ! They are Walmart Reli On, 3/10 ml cc (doses up to 30 units) , 31 gauge, 8 mm (5/16") length, short needle. They are about $13 for a box of 100. Just write all this down and take it to the pharmacist, also I suggest asking to see a package to make sure you are getting the right ones. Good luck!

I just purchase the same one with the shorter needle. I haven't tried them yet, glad you like them Lynn; I'll be interested in trying them.

Thanks, colors not as pretty yesterday or so far today, but we're still hopeful!

I've always used the 8mm needles, what size were you using before? When I got the Levemir, the pharmacist gave me a couple different sizes to try. One 8mm and one 6mm. Don't know if it's just because they're what I'm used to, but I preferred the 8. Will get them at Walmart this time.
 
I use those and love it. When I need more (I go to Walmart) I always rip off the top of the box and bring it with me. That way, I know that I am getting the right ones.

That makes sense about the short needles decreasing chance of fur shot Sue suggested I go to U-100 1/2 unit markings - but if the pharmacist sees he is on a U-40 insulin, wonder if he'll sell them to me - I got my last box from ADW - I will probably just to that again
 
I haven't bought from Walmart yet, I plan to this week, but I did ask the pharmacist. I told her it was for my cat, but She didn't ask what kind of insulin I was using.
 
Great idea about the box top Cindi, I usually bring the empty plastic bag. I always check to be sure they give me the right ones, I have given them the bag and they still made a mistake! I opened the bag before realizing the mistake, so couldn't return them or exchange them. :mad:

Carol, sorry I forgot to mention that the syringes I was talking about are U 100 and have the 1/2 unit markings. So much easier to do small increases and decreases in dosage! The conversion table makes it easy to switch from the U 40 to U 100 syringes. I tape it up on my refrigerator for easy reference! Most states don't require a prescription for syringes, but some do and it even varies in different counties, at least in Florida. You can call a pharmacist and ask about policy for your state.
