Does anyone know of an anti-nausea medication (other than Pepcid) that a vet would prescribe? She seems to get very nauseated one hour or so before eating.

i don't know what's the story behind Murphy feeling yucky as i haven't been around much but other anti-nausea meds we've been given in the last few years are cerenia and zofran

i just did a google search and here's one thing i found http://www.ehow.com/facts_6325425_felin ... ation.html

the zofran was given to us for a cancer kitty so it's probably super potent and may not be called for here but perhaps ask the vet?

Ranitidine (brand name Zantac), metoclopramide (brand name Reglan), cimetidine (brand name Tagamet) and maropitant citrate (brand name Cerenia) are all prescription drugs that can relieve nausea in cats.

There is also ondansetron. PepCid helps prevent excess stomach acid since that can lead to nausea. It is not a general anti-nausea med.

Not that I have ever had the problem but if she is getting nausous about 1 hour before eating, could it be that she is just that hungry? Would moving her meal time up an hour help? Or feeding more often with smaller meal? I know for myself if I get really hungry I feel like crap and get sick to my stomach. Just trying to think of something other than having to give her more meds.

And I'll add a stupid question: How do you know Murphy is nauseated? (My Kitty is having some barf issues, so if there are signs to watch for, I really do want to know.)

It's the typical licking their lips thing, and when I told my vet about it, she conf'd that yes, that's part of the nausea thing. It's always before she eats too, which is probably because she's hungry.

Thanks. I'll watch for that.

I was just reading another of your threads on food, and learning a lot!

My Kitty seems to just start regurgitating/barfing every four or so days, eating more but losing weight. No lip-licking, no swallowing. Labs are inconclusive; we're waiting for the fPli, but wondering about everything from allergies to pancreatitis to IBD. His diabetes is in remission, so I need to be careful about food. I'm thinking we'll try some Pepcid before anything more drastic.

Could be just the pancreatitis, maybe? I know that this is a concern because Murphy already has pancreatitis. I cannot seem to get her to drink much water during the day or night, even though she's on a wet diet. I have to resort to sub q's some days, but any ideas on how to interest her in water?

I just add a little water to mine's food and since they are now all on a wet diet none of them drink much at all.

I also put a lot of water into Kitty's soft food. sometimes I crumble his freeze-dried chicken into the water I've added to the food. Seems to make it tastier to him. Not sure whether using something dried has a dehydrating effect. That would cancel out the added water!

I hope Murphy feels better soon!

Yep, that's what I thought. I think it's just the carnivore in them. I did add more water tonight and she got a little bit of sub-q's earlier. The fluids help -- makes them feel so much better and they are warm and fuzzy she says -- and they help her keep the pancreatitis in check.

Gotta tell ya, the Vetri-DMG - is a god-send for her. Her BG is really stabilizing!
