The test you take immediately prior to your giving Murphy his shot is your AMPS or PMPS. On your SS, and from what you describe, it sounds like your PMPS was 162. What's confusing is your subject line -- it indicates that the 162 is an hour after you shot (i.e., your +1 after your PM shot). I think your SS is right, it's the subject line that is wrong.
The term, "Murphy's Law" -- whatever can go wrong, will go wrong could be very special for your kitty, given the name. In this case, it might mean that the day you are low on strips is the day Murphy's numbers run low and you really need to test like crazy. The moral of the story is to not run low on strips. I always have at least 25, if not 50, in reserve.
The symptoms of hypo are as follows:

* stupor
* convulsions or seizures
* coma
There's more info on hypo in the "Data Ready" sticky. As long as you are testing, this is very unlikely to happen. Some people have described lethargy or their kitty looking a bit glassy eyed but even that is unusual. HC food is the first choice for lower numbers. Sometimes a few drops (literally) of syrup are needed but most of the time, the gravy in HC food does the job very nicely.
Definitely get a +1 and a +2 and you may need to get more tests after that.
