Murphy was Dx'd with diabetes and pancreatitis at the end of August. So far, she's been on Lantus 2 units twice per day. We are changing the diet gradually to a higher protein diet. She has been hovering in the low-mid 200s with her curves. But, I can tell she just doesn't feel right. I'm not sure what to look for if a kitty has a pancreatic attack. Last night, it was bad though. Her belly was gurgly, she was screaming at me when I picked her up. This is so much all at once, and with her asthma, if she is having pancreatic attacks occasionally, it is affecting her breathing. She just seems very depressed. I'm extremely worried about her.

why the candle, it freaked me out. msmurphy near the end???
please check in.

I didn't want to alarm anyone, as I'm not certain what the icons are really. She did end up eating about 1/2-3/4 of her food tonight, and she has drank some of her water but I had to put it right in front of her. She loves ice cubes in her water. I still had to give her the 2 units Lantus tonight per my vet's instructions. This is so new, I don't even know what I'm looking for. Something is making her asthma a little more pronounced. She is breathing a little differently, but it could be the Ivermectin. Another sleepless night. I definitely will be checking her glucose throughout the night. She's not in pain or vomiting or anything. Do they have these ups and downs often? I'm taking her in tomorrow a.m. before work so she can stay with her vet tomorrow, and she can give her fluids for the pancreatitis.

hi lisa, your spread sheet looks very good, very promising.
the candle icon is usually if a cat is dying or has passed.
you can imagine my worry that poor msmurphy was in dire trouble...or worse.
maybe you just lit a candle for the cooler fall night and help lift your spirits for msmurphy not feeling well.
i'm sending healing vines for her and a hug for you.
but congragulations on her #;s and your excellent record keeping.

Hi Lisa:
The icons can be confusing and I am trying to figure out a way to explain their "usual" meaning to everyone. I replaced your candle with a question mark icon so people would think the worst.

Hope your sweet kitty is doing better.

Thank you, Rebecca. I'm sure you can see that I'm not up to speed on all of the aspects of the forum, but am learning so much from everyone and each of you are so caring and thoughtful. It's all so overwhelming dealing with the many aspects of this ugly thing. This little girl is breaking my heart.

She was a superstar a few years ago - there is an article at pet place about her! So, she's had fame!!! But where's the fortune!!!!

It is very difficult to tell if a cat is in pain. They don't cry or yelp like dogs, they are very stoic.

Pancreatitis can be very painful for them. If she protested when you picked her up, her belly could be hurting.

A vet should evaluate her pain level. There are excellent pain meds that can be given to a cat for pancreatitis. How was her pancreatitis diagnosed? If they have not done a feline PLI test for pancreatitis, please request it. Some fasting may be necessary prior to the test.

Pain is as detrimental as disease as it prohibits healing. Pain management should be part of recommended treatment for pancreatitis.

Yes, they did her PLI when I took her in emergency. It was over 25 I believe. So, she's do, but when we did her PLI 3 weeks ago, it went down to 5.7. So, it has decreased, but I am sure that number can change. I do have the kitty morphine to give her. I'm assuming the pancreatitis is what makes her not interested in the food. But, she did end up eating and drinking last night, her BG was 221 this a.m. Off to the vet for fluids this a.m.
