Hi all,
Checking in on Munchie. She had a great afternoon and evening yesterday (longest period of 100's yet) but am afraid we're headed low and into bounce territory today since she tends to get lowest at end of cycle and we're just over half way through and she was at 83 last check. Wondering now if she should have had 1 unit this morn and not 1.25. I'm still learning her responses. Thoughts?

Do folks offer food at under 80 or under 60?

Thanks.

Hi Elizabeth,

From the protocol-
Reducing the dose:
If kitty drops below 40 (long term diabetic) or 50 (newly diagnosed diabetic) reduce the dose by 0.25 unit. If kitty has a history of not holding reductions well or if reductions are close together... sneak the dose down by shaving the dose rather than reducing by a full quarter unit.

According to the info on your ss, a decrease has not been earned.

Regarding you feeding question, it depends, ECID. If you feel the need to slow down a steep dive, offer a tsp of food. If it's after +6 I would stick with LC. It's recommended that you do not feed after +10, so your PS will not be artificially inflated by food.

She was 54 at +8. Not going to wait for her to drop more since her pattern is to drop through +10 or +11. Offered food and will have to keep checking since she may still drop more...unless she bounces first which I was hoping to prevent but not sure if can

I'm not sure there's enough data to conclude that Munchie reliable drops late in the cycle. In part, there are some days where there are lower numbers but you don't have any data from earlier in the cycle on many of those days to know where the numbers were earlier.

Another possibility is that Munchie has a late nadir. If this is the case, it takes a bit more of a shift in perspective. If this is the case, the nadir is closer to your pre-shot time than the middle of the cycle. So if Munchie's low is at around +10, then numbers will start to rise after that point until roughly +4 in the next cycle.

Finally, Munchie may give you "double dips." This is where there's a nadir somewhere in the middle of the cycle and then a second dip around shot time.

Update is she went from 54 (+7) to 50 (+8) so gave her more food then at +11 she had bounced into 500's so I gave her regular dose for tonight.

She had the longest stretch yet of 100's yesterday and last night so wondering if she maybe needed little less this am and if that wouldn't have pushed her so low and high. Will keep working on it...

with that 50 she earned a reduction to 1 unit BID (ok, so technically the protocol says "less than 50," but for such a new diabetic I think 50 is convincing enough, and if you had tested again it might have been 49). Since she bounced so high tonight, it's fine that you shot the old dose one more time, but I would reduce to 1 unit in the morning. It does look like she tends to bounce for more than one cycle, so even if her numbers stay high for a couple of days I would hold the 1 unit dose. Good luck with the reduction!
