Munchie-18th Birthday-bad panc. attack

Hi All,
Haven't posted in awhile but send everyone hello's and the kitties, pats. Munchie turned 18 years old this month and had her best 2 weeks recently and actually was considered regulated last week- but then on Monday another pancreatitis attack hit. She was hospitalized Tuesday night and is back home with me now but not eating on her own. While I'm trying to do some assisted feeding, I'm aware that it may not be enough. I'm very sad and disappointed- it feels sudden and such a change from last week. I had been having some great times with her in the last few months since her brother passed- she was beginning to enjoy being "queen" of the house and getting all my attention (which I love giving her :) ). She has requested that I not take her back to the vet for more medical intervention and I am choosing to respect that (the next step was going to be a naso feeding tube which we did last year and it clogged 2x on us- so it wasn't successful then and have strong doubts about it working now)---but I am still holding out hope that she may turn around. I am giving her meds, subQ, and doing some assist feeding (though I'm not getting a huge amount in her- she is still having some nausea so I have to be careful I don't make her throw-up). Prayers and healing thoughts are appreciated. (no judgements please) Just to add a loving thing- she purred for 3 hours straight last night once she got back home (I was so happy to hear her purring.)

Please talk to your vet about getting a vial of B12 so you can give weekly B12 shots which will help immensely for pancreas inflammation.

My Shadoe was always having ptitis attacks and I always had fluids, bupe, and pepcid on hand.... I needed to give her pepcid BID. I changed to a new vet and mentioned her problems, and he said B12 will fix it, or at the least, it will greatly lessen her attacks. It did. In the months following her getting shots, she had only one minor issue.

The B12 is good for many other things, so I started giving shots to Oliver as well as he seemed to have a constant grey area issue where his fpli was always just under 4.0.

I am sure the B12 will help.

Elizabeth, I hope she rallies. I think you have a lot more love to share with her. She knows you want the best for her. (((hugs))).
 
Hi All,
Just wanted to let you know Munchie has rallied and is improving each day. She started eating on her own yesterday and I continue to see improvements. In fact, she just requested to go outside with me for a walk in the backyard on this beautiful sunny day- very nice. Thanks for all of the positive thoughts. Had to bring her dose down a bit from .75 to .5F- I got a 43 last night but think I caught it on the rise. I wondered about the dose since she hadn't been eating on her own for a bit and then when she started it wasn't her usual amount. So far she's staying in the blues today and hasn't yet had big bounce from it- though sometimes the bounce is delayed a bit for her- but on Lantus she'd usually have whopper bounce pretty much right away. I do feel the Levemir has agreed with her much better.

Glad to hear she is feeling better and eating on her own.

I always had to reduce Beau's dose a bit during a p-titis flare up, so that is normal. It's the one time you have to make dose adjustments based on the PS numbers to stay on the cautious side. It helps to be able to get mid-cycle test as well to confirm the dose changes.

She will probably be back to her "old" dose when she is fully eating again.
