I have a wonderful and super tolerant chill cat, big boy, just found out he has diabetes and a UTI.

We have done a lot of changes around, food selections, portioned meals, solid feeding and shooting (1cc Novolin am/pm).

Appetite was a little down the last few meals, he wasn't eating everything the vet said he needed, but I think that was mostly adjustment because he ate heartily tonight.

My concern is he hasn't had a bowel movement since we started insulin Tuesday evening. He has urinated and is drinking water.

He isn't acting constipated but I guess I'm trying to make sure this doesn't become another issue if I can see it happening.

You can try adding about 1/2-1 tsp of plain steamed and mashed pumpkin to his food a couple of times a day and also give some oil of some variety a couple of times a day (coconut oil is a popular choice and a lot of cats like it and will eat it straight up but you can also use olive oil etc) to get things moving. Adding extra water to food never hurts too.

Has there been any vomiting? Constipation can often lead to vomiting. Or any trips to and from the lb without producing anything? If you start getting symptoms like that and/or the pumpkin/oil doesn't get things moving in a day or two it's probably time for a vetty visit.

We have successfully used plain canned pumpkin with no spices that we mix into the food.
