Ok so lastnight I didn't give Riley a shot because he was at 163 and 155 after checking 20 min. This morning it was high at 317 so I stuck to 1 unit like Sue recommended. How often today should I check his numbers? He is still acting great and loving the wet food fancy feast. He did get that antibiotic lastnight (WITH SUGAR IN IT) and he had a small snack before bed of only 10 morsels of hard food. Someone on here told me to SLOWLY transition the wet (becasue of his IBD) so everyday I give less and less. Today I'm only doing wet food from here on out hopefully it won't irritate his belly. The pumpkin hopefully is working. He did have a BM although I was not there to see if he was struggling to get it out. It looked normal. He has lost alot of weight since the drastic change in his diet so fingers crossed. He is playing like crazy! He was chasing my Pitbull Frankie's tail lastnight and now he's up on the table playing with strings from my birthday balloons. :)

Good Morning! If you want to take the day off, you could. He shouldn't drop low. This may be a higher, flatter cycle. His number this am was high only because you had to skip last night, but we need to get him back to a regular schedule and have a number tonight high enough to shoot. The goal is to have two shootable numbers a day. I am thinking, when he gets back on track, we might look at .5 units a day.

If he can get on all wet, and you can get some meds without sugar, he might be looking really good! I'm glad to hear he is playing and had a poop. Always good news. You might look at getting the Miralax someone mentioned on Health, if he usually tends to be constipated. And, if your probiotic has sugar, the FortiFlora is good. If he is really underweight, you could either feed him a little more or add some protein to his regular meat. Some cats really like cooked chicken - just a chicken breast cooked in the oven with no skin or spices. Then cut into tiny pieces and add a few pieces with every meal. If you want him to have a snack at night, maybe substitute the chicken for the dry. My kitty loves PureBites - a freeze dried low carb meat snack. You can get a bag at PetSmart.

You're doing great, Momma. You should pat yourself on the back. You took a scary diagnosis and learned what you needed to know for your boy and are doing it!

Yes. Do you have one of those higher carb gravy foods? If not, just just his regular food. The dry won't help as much here to bring him up. It usually takes longer.

This is early and a very low, fast drop. You are going to have to use food for awhile to bring him up so you don't want to feed a bunch. Can anyone go out and get aome of the gravy foods? You want to give him the gravy off those foods. It is loaded with carbs and won't fill him up. You want to feed him a little at a time so he won't get full and refuse to eat when you need him to.

So we might as well wait 30 minutes or so to check again, give the food time to work.

He sure surprised me. i was tempted to say up the dose the dose this am cause I knew he'd be so high. Rily seems to want off insulin (anti jinx)

Ok boy was that scary. I will check in 30! thank you so much. I also have some temptation treats and he loves those if I have to give them to him. I know they are high in carbs, but you said liquid is better.

I wonder if we should lower his dose to .5? I guess we have to wait and see what the numbers are. Well I was thinking his infection should be clearing up, he's lost weight and his diet has changed so maybe your right.

It was 3.5 hours after shot. I gave him his shot at 5:20 this a.m. and it's 9:00 now so it will be 4 hrs in 20 minutes. I wonder if his nadair is sooner than later?

He is definitely throwing some curves this am...

Normally 70 is a good number, but it is coming early in the cycle and a huge drop from his am number. So instead of the day of leisure I was envisioning for you, looks like a day of close monitoring.

I would guess he is just responding to everything: low carb food, insulin, clearing of the infection. Sometimes it just takes a couple weeks for everything to work together. All good news, just a little nerve wracking today.

ok thank you. I will let you know what new numbers are. When posting them to my ss do I use lower or higher when I take it withing same time? like when its 77 then 68? Does it matter

It doesn't really matter. 68/70 are basically the same number. All we need to see is the green so soon after the pink.

Are you still having trouble with the ss? If you husband wants, we could try a conversation today to try to figure it out. It still looks fine on the link in your signature.

my internet is going up and down but I will be taking riley at 520 and I will try to let you know what it is. if it's over 200 should I give half dose .5?

I am a little nervous trying to predict what our Mr. Riley will do. Normally .5 should be fine, but one unit this am should have been okay too. I guess .5. Plan to get a test around+3 and then before bed? And no shot under 200, I think.

Agree. He surfed in the same range all day. Again, tomorrow he will probably Be high but I'd try .5. If one unit can take him from the 300s to 70, I think a lower dose is best.

Oh Sue thanks for the info on snacks. I've tried giving him plain chicken and he won't eat it I also went and bought some of the freeze dried chicken and he doesn't like it,all the other cats love it so she's just a very finicky little eater. I knew he was hungry tonight looking around for food so I gave him some soft food and he refused it so I had to give him some dry just a few bites because I know that he's hungry and I don't want him going without food for too long. It seems like only eat the wet food early in the morning and once dry at night. Cats. I'm going to try to get the freeze dried shrimp next he might like that we'll see

He does need to eat. You've got to do what you've got to do to make sure he gets food. Give it some time. Some cats need time to transition to wet food.
