Mr. Kink OTJ - a couple questions

Can't thank you all enough for celebrating Mr. Kink's OTJ party with us yesterday! AND I got an email from Petsmart wishing him a happy birthday, because we'd decided that it was his birthday that day a while ago because we couldn't remember what day in July he was born - LOL. So TWO celebrations in one!! Congrats to Buca and Heather, too! So glad we could share such a great day with them.

You all have been such a support to my sister, Mr. Kink, and I, and I will miss checking in with you guys every day.

But I'm back with my neverending questions one more time!

You guys thought you'd gotten rid of me! Oh ho ho! Just kiddin' :lol:

Two questions:

1) how long should we do the "small meals" thing with him? Is that supposed to be indefinitely or can we go back to feeding him 2x a day?

2) how often do I need to check him? I feel like I remember once a week somewhere, but please correct me if I'm wrong!

Mr. Kink is still diabetic -- he's just food controlled. So, whatever you can do to not overtax his pancreas will help to keep in in remission. So, whenever possible, frequent small meals are the way to go.

I think people vary with their comfort level and gradually reduce the frequency of their testing. Take a look at Libby's Lucy's SS.

Vyktor is very upset with me for missing the kinky one's party - but I don't think he realised he is Mr Kink because of his tail he thought other things might be going on :lol:

I remember a kitty that went OTJ on health who started feeding once or twice a day again and found the kitties numbers going up - better to stick with the smaller more frequent meals... and of course always LC wet!

We were feeding every 3 hours and I've just nudged it to every 4 hours for ease. I think it's a good pattern. I just invested in some PetSafe round auto feeders so I can sync them up (they are digital, so my two feeders can pop open at the same time for my two cats). I wonder if anyone feeds every 6 hours and has success? However, with the auto feeders the 4 hour schedule is bearable. It's way easier than insulin, to be sure.
