MPM, Opie and Lower Numbers

I do not want you to hold back on telling me anything because you think that you are saving me any heartache or inconvenience. I would benefit far more if you were honest and open about things, giving me everything up front. Opie has suffered almost two years because I was taught incorrectly by my vet and because I was ignorant and unaware of what to do. I do not think it is right to make him suffer longer because I am not doing what I need to do or not understanding what I need to do for him, or going slow by not having all the knowledge of what he is doing and how I can help. Please do not misunderstand me and think I am not extremely grateful for your help, I only wish for you to not hold back anything because you think I am not ready. I am not the kind of person to be afraid and will do anything I need to do wholeheartedly despite what it takes. Much love to all of you.

I see this thread is getting too l long again. Will begin a new one later today.

No, I just meant that I was pretty sure that I had talked about feeding schedules for Opie -- you know all the jazz about the snacks in the early part of the cycle, etc. And I always include in those instructions that we don't recommend feeding much at all after nadir because it can shorten the duration of the insulin. I always tell new members this, so I sound like a broken record. I think that whole thing about not feeding after nadir got lost in the many back and forth messages of the thread. Also, you were trying to get Opie to gain weight as I recall, so you said you needed to feed him as much as you could. Also, you told me that Opie is very picky and sometimes you can't get him to eat. We do make exceptions to the "rules" because people have to deal with cats. In a perfect world, we don't feed after nadir, but sometimes people have to for a variety of reasons. We had a lot of talk on different threads about feeding a few snacks in the early part of the cycle, but you also said he would refuse to eat it. So I concluded that you knew best how and when to get Opie to eat. Telling people that we don't really recommend feeding after nadir is something I tell everyone, usually on their first post.

Anyway, so if there is an exception, I just recommend that people feed as little as possible or the lowest carb possible. I definitely don't want to hold back important info like that.

I didn’t see a new thread yet so I will post here. I do not see any issue with you having increased the dose and I did say yesterday morning if you didn’t see any green in the “next cycle or two”, it would be time to increase the dose. I was looking at the fact that he’s just dipped his toes in green since the evening of 6/10 and it was six cycles this morning since he even hit 90 and I’m not sure he will get there today although he just might decide to clear that bounce.

I appreciate your comments and we are very grateful and happy to have you and Opie here. However, I must be missing something because I don’t see any indication Suzanne was holding back. I don’t believe Suzanne would ever intentionally hold back info. She understands the importance of safe progress and that’s how she advises. It’s how all of us experienced advisors advise.

But if you mean in regard to feeding, most of our new members are inexperienced and totally new to FD so we have to be careful the amount of info we throw at them at once as they are easily overwhelmed. Even members who have been dealing with FD a while have a lot to learn here since vets are doing a poor job of educating them.

The flip side of the coin is it takes us some time to get to know the CG and we are all about safety first. Believe me, we have seen CGs shoot a lower number than they’ve done before and then just disappear. From the look of Opie’s SS and how much you test, I don’t believe any of us would come close to worrying you would shoot and disappear. But you’ve only been posting daily since June 7 and it does take us some time to get to know a CG. Because you’ve been dealing with FD for two years, I can understand why you want to do MPM but remember we typically advise all members new to the FDMB PZ group that they start with SLGS.

I am comfortable with you doing MPM since you do have data, even though it’s not generated under one of our dosing methods, if you understand what I mean. I also know you will be very careful with Opie and monitor. You’ve already learned a lot and the nighttime testing shows you understand more now than when started here. You are asking great questions!

I did not mean to imply that Suzanne did anything wrong, in fact, she has been absolutely wonderful. It only made me realize that you may not say everything because of being 'careful' and I am very anxious for all the information that I can get. That is all I am saying. Hugs to all of you and much thanks.

Thank you and please don’t worry. We completely understand. It’s all good!!!
