and yet here she is, bounding down the stairs with a hop skip and a jump in her step as if she were a kitten.

for those that are newly diagnosed or don't know us that well, I want you to know that my Mousie was diagnosed as diabetic 5 years, 1 month, and 7 days ago.

I actually did the math which came to minimum of 3750 insulin shots and another 3750 pokes to the ear with the lancet device. at one time I did a tight regulation protocol that required more shots and more testing, plus throw in the occasional curve and I figure we're probably near 8000 pokes at least since she was diagnosed.

and yet shooting her in the scruff day in and day out still produces numbers like 153 in the morning and 163 in the evening, 14 hours apart, and there's not a scar on her ears and she doesn't hate me. if anything, she likes me more now than she did prior to her diabetes because back then, i, lowly human that i am, was only good for giving her food. anything else and i was beneath her :-)

i tell this because i want people to know it can be successfully treated, that kitty can live with diabetes for years, that your kitty won't hate you for poking them, that hometesting can keep kitties safe for years and years, and that it won't make their ears fall off or get infected or turn into lumps of scar tissue.

so take a deep breath, educate yourselves, and you do this. we all know you can

Happy Belated Annifursary my dear Mousikins! Now will you stop biting me?
(I forgot about her annifursary until today when I was posting about something in pzi isg. LOL!)

That is an awesome post for us newbies! It makes it feel manageable and even like it might be an interesting journey. Thanks

I just got the news today my little man, Coconut, has diabetes. He residess with my ex-wife in South Carolina and I am here in Connecticut. I feel so powerless and helpless. While I am encouraged but what I have read so far, I hope my ex will be able to handle all that needs to be done. For she has her own life issues and I pray for her and Coco she doesn't become overwhelmed.

Thank you for this feel good post. Those of us whe are newbies really appreciate knowing that the outcome can be good, and that our sweet kitties will forgive our fumbling, awkward jabs and not hate us for doing this to them.
