Today would have been Moonie's 5th Annifursary here in lantus land! Couldnt let her almost anniversary just go by--She was a happy, relatively healthy feline diabetic for 4 years and 51 weeks, till she went to the Bridge last Thursday from a totally different disease--I am writing this for the members who are here a short time, have had cats on the juice for a while, and for those who are lucky enough to have kitties that will go OTJ!
It took her a while to be tested, she tore my heart out till I could BG test her, but I found if I gave her just a small snack when I was about to test her, she forgot all about the test, & chomped down whatever it was I gave her--She Loved To Eat (got that from me  ) I finally learned that till they accept being tested & shot, they need a diversion..Freeze dried chicken or real chicken worked, a low carb treat, i became creative. Besides everyone loves a snack!
She was always a low dose diabetic, but believe me that was difficult too..I kept her on tight regulation all the time, it does work! But I always liked to keep her safe too, as some days I was out for many many hours-That's when the auto feeder changed our life together...Use it for it is great.
Timing is a big part of all this, we become programmed, we watch the clock, but that's what makes it work.

Feline Diabetes can be controlled, it just becomes part of the your life, you learn to flow with it, family & friends start to understand..And the Cats, well they so appreciate that you have saved their lives, made them feel so much better, love them so much..
Moonie is coming home tomorrow, we are picking her cremains tomorrow, she will be home.
It has been so hard, still waking up to do her test & shot, getting myself on a new schedule--
But as we all know Life goes on!
Love you dear friends, I will still come around to visit, I cant stay away--Lantus gave Moonie 4 yrs & 51 weeks more Life than she would have had--That's the Best testimonial to FDMB I can give.
Hugs to all & Love from Me & DH..

Hugs to you, too, Roni. You and Brad were the greatest beans for Moonie and she and Copper were so lucky to be with you. I love the story of how they came to live with you. :-D I'm glad Moonie will be home tomorrow.

Hi Roni - Many hugs! I am so glad that you come back and visit us. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of you. I am so glad Moonie will be home tomorrow. The circle will then be complete.

Re: Moonie almost made her 5th Anniversary

Thankyou for sharing your bitter sweet experience with Moonie on LL, Roni. It is important for us newbies to know that our sugar lover can still enjoy life with the TR schedule. So glad to know that Mannie had 5 happy years here. That's a comfort to us, caretaker trying so hard.
Moonis is home, she is everywhere.
Take care Roni & Brad.

Re: Moonie almost made her 5th Anniversary

(((((Roni)))). Thank you for sharing this with us. It's important to all of us who have been here a while as we hold Moonie memories close to our hearts and for the new members who can see that FD can be managed.

Thinking of you as always but especially the next few days.

We will be thinking special thoughts tomorrow. Thank you for writing this post and for all that you do to encourage every one of us--old timers and newbies. Moonie was such a lucky girl to have found you. She and Copper will always be right there, with you.

Talk to you over the weekend.

Much love and BIG HUGS,

Ella & Edward and Rusty (and, of course, Stu)

((((Roni and Brad and Moonie)))
Just reading her name makes me smile. I'm glad she will be home with you. Although i'm sure she's never been more than a whisker's width away from you and Brad. I'm sending you all our love. mary and ollie

Re: Moonie almost made her 5th Anniversary

I was so sad and upset to read about Moonie's passing - you and Brad have been in my thoughts. You gave Moonie the final gift of freedom from illness and pain and I'm sure now she's happy and remembering her wonderful life with you.

I know all too well how difficult it is to adjust after the loss of a furry family member, and it's even more intense when the pet has required the kind of day-to-day care that Moonie needed or any diabetic or sick animal needs. That degree of attention and constant concern creates a very special bond, and the sudden stopping of a routine that may have gone on for years becomes a constant reminder. It can feel like a big hole has opened in your life. As with all losses, it will get better but it takes time. Very big hugs from me. (((Roni & Brad)))

Re: Moonie almost made her 5th Anniversary

((((((Roni)))))) it has been a special 5 years in so many ways. You and Moonie have been a big part of it for me.

Re: Moonie almost made her 5th Anniversary

Thinking of you as you bring Moonie home today. Only good thoughts today and celebrate the beautiful things of your life together!

We miss seeing you here and I am so happy that we will continue to hear from you here. Love fron all of us here on the far side of the country.

Re: Moonie almost made her 5th Anniversary

Hi Roni, been hoping you were ok. I feel your pain as I go through it daily! Scrabble passed away on his third anniversary on lantus, kind of ironic huh? It is so weird to not have to get up and go through the routine, I am sure you feel the same as me, kind of lost. We will forever be grateful for the board. Please stay in touch. Take care and big hugs!!!!

Our Baby is Home!! Brad brought her home from the vet ( she is getting a beautiful urn) in a nice tin with flowers & he bought a vase with a rose that opens up & says I Love You! He got it for me for Valentine's day, but it belongs to Moonie now,..I am so Happy she is here, the circle is indeed complete--I will be back on the board to visit, as soon as I can get rid of this lump in my throat, & the heaviness in my Heart--Love you all so much--Thank you for Helping us so so so much through these dark times we have had..Hugs from Us always!
Even when you are in the pitch black, even the smallest spark illuminates.....

What a beautiful message, Roni. Sending love and hugs to you and yours. The vase sounds perfect and most becoming for your sweet Moonie. May your heart continue to heal and your memories ease your pain (((hug)))

Welcome home Moonie. We all miss you very much and know that you are learning your way around in the lovely land across the rainbow bridge, getting into mischief with Copper and meeting everyone there, and eating all of your favorite fuds, as much as you want and anytime you want. Your beans (and LL family) miss you very much.

And sending heaps of love and hugs to Roni & Brad. Moonie's beautiful new urn will look lovely when you all finally get home home.

(((Roni)))) Welcome home, Moonie. Forever loved.

Welcome Home Moonie!
(((Roni))) Moonie will be sorely missed. She was such a big part of LL.
Although she will always live in yours and Brad's hearts, I'm glad you have her home with you, where she belongs.
Hugs to you and Brad.

Roni I've been praying for you and Brad. I'm glad you have Moonie home now. Thank you for sharing and for you support of Furball & me. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

(((((((((((((((Roni and Brad)))))))))))))))))))) and (((((((((((((((((Moonie))))))))))))))))))) so happy she is home :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

I'm so glad that Moonie is home with you again...where she belongs. It made such a difference to me to get Jackson home. It was a big comfort. I hope it is that for you too. My dad used to say to me(and I hated it but what did I know... I was only 26 when he died) "There's always a light at the end of the tunnel"....I think I'm beginning to understand what he meant now. I hope you'll be seeing some light soon, ((((Roni))))

xoxoCaryl

Beautiful Moonie, we are so happy that you are home with your loving beans. Watch over them. They love you so much.

(((((Roni & Brad))))), the urn and the vase with rose will be purrfect. And I know that Moonie's and Copper's resting places will grace a very special place in your new-old home. How wonderful that will be!

Have a really good evening,

Much love and BIG HUGS,

Ella & Edward, Rusty, and Chef Stu, who is probably making Moonie a celebratory homecoming dinner with all her favorite fuds.

There is great comfort in having our babies back with us, even if they aren't laying on top of us or greeting us at the door. I'm so terribly sorry for your loss. Thinking of you and yours in this difficult time. Hugs to you all.

Lu-Ann

I've been thinking about you daily. My heart is with you. I can only imagine what it is like to come up with a "new" normal. Your post is so right on. We have been here two years and while it hasn't been all roses, I know that Tarragon understands that we are trying our hardest for him. Friends and family have learned that that is our life. They at least have stopped rolling their eyes. Moonie was a happy healthy girl who had incredible beans and she loved you so much. Big huge hugs Roni!!
