Today would have been Moonie's 5th Annifursary here in lantus land! Couldnt let her almost anniversary just go by--She was a happy, relatively healthy feline diabetic for 4 years and 51 weeks, till she went to the Bridge last Thursday from a totally different disease--I am writing this for the members who are here a short time, have had cats on the juice for a while, and for those who are lucky enough to have kitties that will go OTJ!
It took her a while to be tested, she tore my heart out till I could BG test her, but I found if I gave her just a small snack when I was about to test her, she forgot all about the test, & chomped down whatever it was I gave her--She Loved To Eat (got that from me  ) I finally learned that till they accept being tested & shot, they need a diversion..Freeze dried chicken or real chicken worked, a low carb treat, i became creative. Besides everyone loves a snack!
She was always a low dose diabetic, but believe me that was difficult too..I kept her on tight regulation all the time, it does work! But I always liked to keep her safe too, as some days I was out for many many hours-That's when the auto feeder changed our life together...Use it for it is great.
Timing is a big part of all this, we become programmed, we watch the clock, but that's what makes it work.
Feline Diabetes can be controlled, it just becomes part of the your life, you learn to flow with it, family & friends start to understand..And the Cats, well they so appreciate that you have saved their lives, made them feel so much better, love them so much..
Moonie is coming home tomorrow, we are picking her cremains tomorrow, she will be home.
It has been so hard, still waking up to do her test & shot, getting myself on a new schedule--
But as we all know Life goes on!
Love you dear friends, I will still come around to visit, I cant stay away--Lantus gave Moonie 4 yrs & 51 weeks more Life than she would have had--That's the Best testimonial to FDMB I can give.
Hugs to all & Love from Me & DH..
