Just gave some HC.
Do I test again in 15 mins?
Or can I wait 30?
He's eating the HC now

Give Karo syrup, sugar, treats, any high carb wet, honey. Recheck in 15 min.

Ok did a +3 and 15 mins and got a 51 after feeding some HC

I went through the same thing this am, Micah was at 27 +5. Gave her wet, treats, syrup and rechecked every 15-30 then watched her behavior. Any signs of hypo with your kitty?

Give small meals next few hours and recheck every 30 min-1hr. And watch the behavior.

Being his silly rambunctious self so far.
We're up in the 50s at +3.25

Start with just HC gravy. You don't want him eating too much in case you have to continue feeding for a while. Otherwise, he may vomit and/or refuse to eat. Mix a little simple sugar (karo, honey, etc..) into the HC gravy to give an extra boost, if need be.

Test again in 15 minutes. If he's over 50, wait and test again in 15 minutes. Only feed if he's under 50 to help reduce impact of too much food and/or too much sugar later on.

You want to create a nice surf to slide him through nadir; you don't want him to spike too high from the extra carbs but you don't want him to drop too low, either.

test in 30 minute increments... it takes that much time to affect bg....

shorter time increments are when there is major drama and super low numbers....

Perfect that's exactly what I did.
Gave some HC (with food though, but just a little) And the HC he eats no matter what since it's a 'treat' for him. and he never gets it unless this happens.
Testing again at +3.5

I think a 27 is a lot more scary than a 44. I know both are scary. You don't want the kitty to ever go below 20. At least with a 44, you have a little more room before he gets to a LO. With a 51, I would give another 2 teaspoons of HC and test again in about 20 to 25 minutes.
The HC will wear off, so you will have to keep testing for awhile. Please only feed just a bit of food at a time, as you do not want Moo to fill up too much and then not want to eat later, just in case you need her to.

^That's what I normally do, but I know my kitty better than yours so I was trying to be overly liberal with the testing. ;-)

Good catch!!

Here are the instructions to follow:
  • Depending on how carbohydrate sensitive your cat is, feed approximately a teaspoon or less of gravy from high carb food or high carb food only.
    (If you have a cat with GI issues, using a couple of drops of syrup plus low carb food is an alternative.)
  • Test again in 15 – 20 min. Depending on the numbers, give more HC food.
  • Repeat the above steps every 15 – 20 min. until your cat tests in the 50 mg/dL (2.8 mmol/L) or above range for 2 consecutive tests. Continue to feed in small amounts to keep numbers in a safe range.
  • Test in 30 - 40 min. and repeat the test and feed process until there are 2 consecutive tests where numbers are stable or rising.
  • Test in an hour and follow the same steps.
You're doing great. Just test and feed or, "lather, rinse, and repeat." And, congrats on the dose reduction!

Fed a bit more HC gravy.
Will test again at +4
So far so good

And now I have to leave for the night. I have an hour drive to my brothers surprise 21st bday party.
Wont be back till well after Moos +9
So I just gave him some HC.
My roommate is home and knows what to look for though and where the HC and karo is if needed!
 
He's fine. :). Things are good. Didn't test when I got home cause it was 230am and I couldn't find him. At amps he was low 100s but in the 200s now. Heading out the door to my part time job now but ill update all #s Nd ss when I get back!
