What the heck? I just did a +3.5 after PMPS and got three totally different numbers. 309, then 71, then 229. All within a minute of each other in same position...no stress.

Does this happen to other people? I can't make heads or tails of her levels when I get numbers like these. And I bet if I were to test more than once at each test time, I would find the same thing happens.

So freaking frustrated!!!

My poor Calley. :(

oh dear! what monitor? does it require coding? perhaps the strips are contaminated? check expiration dates too.

I use the Relion Prime. Its brand new only had it a month. Strips are new too.

This isn't the first time this has happened. Both times I have tested couple times in a row, I got huge differences in numbers.

This is why I won't ever use the Relion Prime meter - this isn't the first time I've heard the same complaint about that meter. I dislike having to say that because you've bought it and strips too...I suspect that's why they're so much cheaper than others. I've also heard of the opposite - others love their Prime meters and haven't had issues with them. It's been a few months so I don't remember the others that had issues.

HUGS!!

I use two Primes one for each cat. Its a fussy meter that you need to be very precise about the blood sample with. If the strip doesn't completely fill it will give either a error code or a bad read ( too low) if you drown the strip it gives a too high bad read. Now its a good meter but probably not the best when just starting out or with an unpredictable cat. Before switching over to the Prime and still is my preferred meter is the Relion Micro.

Well then I guess i'll be getting a new meter....but not for a while. I can't afford it now. :(

The Prime is a perfectly good meter if you understand its limitations. There isn't a hand held glucometer that's going to give you a precise reading. All meters have a variance of plus/minus 20% That's 20% not 20 points so the higher the numbers the wider the possible range.

Two of those numbers were well within meter variance, one was clearly bad. You aren't looking for a precise number your looking for trends and an average. So when things like that happens the easiest way to handle it is take the two readings in range, add together and divide by two for the average. Just discard the one that was clearly bad.

How frustrating!

Even through the Prime might be a fussy meter in general, it is possible that your particular meter might be malfunctioning or defective. My Relion Micro has a one-year warranty, the Prime likely does too. You might be able to exchange it or get a refund through the store you purchased it at or through the company.

Yes, I'd contact them and see if you can get a replacement model. I have never gotten an unexpected number on my meter that wasn't verified by a second test (within stated variation limits, though it tends to be within 5 points). I have the Arkray variation, but it's the exact same meter as the Relion Prime, just sold with a different brand stamped on it.

Sounds like you have a malfunctioning unit to me.

I got it at Walmart. They refuse to take any diabetic material back...not to mention I have no receipts for purchase or anything. :(

I will try to contact the manufacturer.

thanks everyone for the info. :)

Relion/Arkray customer service is awesome. First time I tested Musette she promptly kicked her meter into the dog's water bowl and they sent me a brand new meter.

One tip Don't tell them its for a cat.

Good tip. Do you happen to know the number for manufacturer? I can't find any of the material that came with the monitor. Thanks

Wow thanks for posting this. So sorry you are having trouble!
I've got to go get some new strips from my Relion Confirm and I was thinking about just buying the Prime instead. I think I'll stick with the Confirm for the moment!

Love the Relion Micro only switched to the Prime when I was testing 3 and just haven't unpacked the box yet with my micros in it. Just about daily I want to see how far I can chuck the stupid Prime. I get more errors or it shuts off for no reason and I can draw blood from a cat's ear in my sleep and Autumn I think would bleed on command she's been tested so many times.

Sometimes I go through three or four strips to get the meter to work....I either get the error message or multiple different numbers and dont' know what to think is the correct one.

Ack. Calley's ear bleeds like a faucet now each time. Sometimes so much that I need to put pressure on it to get it to stop bleeding. :(

Will get the Micro next time around. Wonder if Walmart manufacturer would trade for a Micro since the Prime is a piece of junk?
