Having RD Mom can be helpful as already figured out how to calculate CHO in all foods. Mom has RA, mobility & eyesight issues easy to get away from as I hate new mosquito who bites twice a day (think it's really Mom so bite her). Was on fixed dose Relion N Monday received snack (oh ham I love u so) I was slipping on floor, head bobbing Mom said didn't look right so skitter visit BS 22! RD kicked in with honey got me out to eat ham didn't bring me to where Mom wanted got entire can 0.45 gm CHO liver & chicken. Mom let me have it despite thinking #'s would be bad (not me I'm perfect angel). As of last night had total insulin 5 units instead of 17.5 units previously Dr M had Mom giving. Dr M wants Mom to check my pee thinks I'm stressing w skitter! I growl, swat, hiss, violently shake head & even bite Mom. Mom tries to read everything potty had crystals with little clumping litter as making slush & I don't like wet toes. Mom changed entire potty only Fresh Step crystals. Mom wants to know can eventually get glucose check using Fresh Step, or does it need to be special litter? Anyway to check using a clumping litter? Crazy 15 yo Siamese woman I live with has chronic kidney dz & refuses all litters so potty all mine crazy Emma using the doggie mats! Can anyone help Mom? Only peed once immediately put glucose stick in wet litter, but Mom didn't think it worked. How does Mom check pee without chasing my butt with spoon as skitter bad enough don't need Mom in potty with me plus she's so unstable might literally be in it!

Jack's mom, I just replied to your intro forum post. We need you to speak as the human, it's very difficult to read your posts as if your cat is talking.

As soon as we can gather some clear information with the signature and spreadsheet info, and decipher what is basically going on with Jack, we can get some suggestions, answers and help for you.

Essentially, Jack had a hypo with a BG of 22???? When? You administered a snack of what? Are you testing the blood sugar with a glucometer or are you using the urine test sticks, or trying to? Or are you trying to get a urine sample to test for ketones?

You are injecting Novolin Insulin at 5 Units instead of 17.5 Units twice a day??

Yes, we can help Mom if we can get clear, basic information to guide us for giving advice

Welcome! Really the best way to check glucose levels is with a blood sample. Since your kitty is fighting, you can try some desensitization techniques. Choose one spot that will be the testing spot and take him there multiple times a day and just pet him, rub his ear, give a treat and let him go. When both of you relax with that, you can start adding the poke and test. Always remember to give a treat after, and always take a deep breath before you start, to relax yourself. Your cat can sense if you’re nervous or expecting a fight, and will then be nervous or belligerent himself. It may sound silly, but also try singing softly while you desensitize and test. Here is some info on home testing. Please look at the videos and ask any questions you have. We have lots of tricks to persuade kitty to cooperate.

In the meantime the urine tests, though not nearly as accurate, can help, but you’ll need a fresh uncontaminated sample. Some of us put some wadded up saran wrap to catch the pee or use a non absorbent litter such as aquarium gravel.

Why is the dose so high? Does he have acromegaly? Most cats never need more than 3 units unless there is a high dose condition.
