I cant figure this out. She was doing good last night at 260 then at 248 at 6am. Then she ate almost a whole can (which is usual lately) of Fancy Feast classic chicken & liver and now at +11 she is hi????? Should I try a different food????

It looks to me like it's time for a dose increase for Mom-Mom. Has anyone else suggested this? You're testing enough, and in looking at your spreadsheet, I see room for an increase. What is your test strip situation? I would not do the increase unless you have a good supply.

Yesterday

We haven't had the opportunity to welcome you to LLand yet Laura :-D Just thought I'd post yesterdays link for you. I agree, an increase looks like a good idea.

the other factor here isn't as much the carbs in the FF, which i think is around 4-5%, but the volume and timing. Most people give most of the food to a cat in the first 4 or so hours of each cycle and minimize the food after +6 or so. Some cats will graze evenly throughout the cycle, which works fine, but for her to inhale an entire 3oz can after the nadir will definitely increase her blood sugar. the Lantus' effect is strongest in the first half of the cycle and waning in the second half. Feeding her when the insulin is waning puts the brakes on the Lantus and can raise her numbers.

Try feeding most of her food early in the cycle, and perhaps just giving minimal boiled chicken treats (1/2" cubes) after pokies in the second half of the cycle. Anything pure meat has 0 carbs - freeze dried meat is another possibility for treats.

I did increase today to 0.75, I just changed it. I also went out and bought some recommended wet foods. I make a little boo boo, instead of Blue Buffalo kitten chicken, which only has 2 carbs I bought Blue wilderness. Who knew there was so many "Blue" choices. Anyway, it does say chicken is the first ingredient. She did have a small amount of Fancy Feast Chicken & liver this morning but, she has been munching on the Blue Wilderness since. Hopefuly the numbers will show it. Thanks everyone for the support

Try to not base your decision on whether a food is OK on whether the first ingredient is protein. There can be any number of foods out there where chicken is the first ingredient but rice or potato may also be included. As a result, you could end up with a food that's higher in carbs than you want. I suspect the Blue Wilderness is fine.

The reason you're seeing the jump back into high numbers is because Mom-mom's numbers dropped 300 points last night. In all likelihood, that big of a drop triggered a bounce.

Like Julie pointed out, when you feed can be as influential on numbers as what you feed. Unless Mom-mom's numbers are dropping into lower green ranges, you probably don't want to be feeding after nadir. Late in the cycle, there isn't as much available insulin to offset the effect of the food.

I think you can take the "911" off of your condo. We try to reserve the 911 for medical emergencies.

I'm also concerned that you may have trouble getting Mom-mom's numbers down if she has a bad tooth. Dental issues are notorious for throwing OTJ cats out of remission. Any infection or inflammation can cause a rise in BG. That tooth may have a great deal to do with the high numbers you're seeing.
