Mom and Dad are getting no sleep

so, Dexter is an inside outside cat, always has been hates it indoors except at night when he comes in. He eats around 6:30 pm gets 3 1/2 I of Novolin and then stays inside or goes out and then comes back in at 1 am ish. The problem is he has started keeping us up when he comes in at 1 am till 5 not wanting the food that is down. We don’t know what to do

What is he doing when he’s keeping you up? Are you home testing? Is he eating well otherwise?
