Diabetic Cats in Need (DCIN)

Molly's sad story, from Friday.

I received a call this evening from the placement director of the shelter that Molly was in. The shelter had another diabetic surrendered on Friday afternoon. I don't yet know his name.

This time the shelter will do things differently. On Monday, I will be sending the shelter insulin and testing and other diabetic equipment. The shelter will be looking for a foster home within its network to provide a home environment to reduce the cat's exposure to shelter bugs and stress. The shelter will accept education for some of its tech staff and/or the foster home on the appropriate care and feeding of a diabetic cat.

I knew Molly's story would be one that would change that shelter in the future, but I had no idea how quickly miss Molly would work from the Bridge. This is wonderful news. Molly's life did make a difference and now this new little man will just one of many kitties she will help save going forward.

I cannot help it......the tears just start again whenever I see her beautiful face. I understand it but I still hate all that happened to her. I know with a body temp of 94, untreated diabetes, and pneumonia, her body was shutting down. We'll never know if immediate treatment could have saved her and we also have no idea of how bad she may have looked. She may have had so much coming out of her nose and trouble breathing and I know it was the humane thing to do, it just gets to me. I cannot write what I feel about her owner, I'd be banned. At least Molly's life has now led to a shelter knowing they can be cared for and homes found for them. What a legacy she has left and how many hearts she has touched and so sad that she never knew. I can only hope that there were kind hands helping her to the Bridge.
 
While I will always remain angry and sad over the loss of Molly (and others), I'm happy
to hear there are others that can be saved now.
 
Life and death are so intermingled. Like the others, I get weepy when I see Molly's picture and think about how sad she must have felt to be abandoned and then so sick.

Good for you Venita for having such a positive effect! Let me know when/how/if I can help.
 
My heart is still sad for Molly but how wonderful the the shelter is stepping up to learn new things about FD - not just "oh well, lets get rid of them." Thank you Molly & DCIN.

I couldn't agree with you more!!! :evil:

I too am still having tears roll down my face when i look at Molly, what a precious little girl.
Don't think for one second Molly isn't having a hand at what's going on in that shelter now.. She's keeping a watchful
eye to make darn sure it doesn't happen again. I sure hope they have since gotten heating blankets or some form of blanket
for them when they put them in the cages.

will have a much happier ending.. Pictures please when you can..

I can not bear to see Molly's picture anymore, it is so upsetting. I am especially shocked that they shaved off all her fur and were suprised when they found her shivering in her cage, among other things. When I first read of Molly's plight I was sobbing so hard that my husband had to come upstairs to see what was wrong.

I am grateful that Venita and DCIN have helped them to see a way to help these beautiful creatures.

If I can be of assistance Venita, please let me know.
