Some of you may remember that I posted about what I thought were ear mites in mocha's ears .. they turned out to be bacteria infections in both ears.
She was put on ear drops called Zymox (steroid free) for a week. Within 2-3 days she was acting better and feeling good .. she stopped folding her ears down and stopped rubbing them ..
We did the drops for a week, and then did them for about three extra days, just to make sure. The vet called a few days after that and asked how her ears were doing (there was no check up appt made) I told her how mocha was acting, and she said great, then I told her that there was still a good amount of brown gunk in her ear canal that we could see .. she said it was most likely leftover residue and would work it's way out .. but so long as mocha wasn't messing with her ears, most likely the infection was gone.
Well it has now been close to a month and while a LOT of the gunk is gone from her ears we can still see way down low lots more .. Mocha doesn't rub on her ears or keep them folded down like she originally did, but I don't know if the ears should be all clean at this point or not? The last 3-4 days we have started up with the drops again, just in case .. mocha's numbers are still averaging in the 60's ..
I could make her another appt, but the vet does not discount for rechecks .. so it would be the cost of another vet visit even if her ears were just fine. Does anyone have any experience with this? We have tried the mineral oil trick, and mocha hates it, plus her ears tend to look very red after we use it .. I wonder if she has an allergic reaction to that? Not sure, but we try not to use it ..
