Mocha aka Cold Play

Member Since 2015
Did not get late cycle testing because she was so high and I needed some chunks of sleep. I was thinking that drop will come again, so that was my time to rest up. She was wonderful. Let me sleep til 6am and woke me by neck massages instead of crying. NO URINE accidents overnight. Yesterday, there were several again. That is always an indicator to me that her number will be good!

A beautiful blue 115 preshot. NICE!

Tomorrow is our closing on the condo and I will be gone at least 3 hours from 11:30-2:30. Maybe she will spike again today from this low pre-shot and I won't have to worry? But, I don't have anyone she is used to that could come in. I am always here otherwise. I was thinking depending on her read around 11:00 just make a call what to feed and how much.

Strapping the seat belt and prepared for flight. Nothing fancy Mocha.

Great start for Mocha this morning. It's nice you got some sleep last night. Tomorrow you can leave extra food out if you need to.

Beautiful pre-shot Mocha now surf safely today! Very nice that bounce broke so quickly and hope she takes this dose and runs with it. I would feed her before you leave and like Carla said, leave a little out for her too. Congrats on your closing.

We have a second cat but she is not as interested in Mocha's wet anymore (not since she got a tasting of that IAM'S!) And, Mocha has a separate designated eating table that Latte does not venture on generally. I am guessing any extra I leave will be snarfed and Latte will never get to it anyhow! Thanks for the congrats on the house. We look forward to being settled there in a few weeks.

I am tossing around the idea of taking them there a few times for short periods of time, when we go anyhow. And, let them just get used to one area that would be safe....likely thinking the large walk in closet, that I will use when we go over with the movers (because nothing will go in there). I am thinking a little stress earlier might reduce the longer stress later being crated in our home with all the noise. Agree?

Nice start to the day. You might put something with your scent on it that is nice and soft for them to lay on. Maybe a blanket? Then they could hide under it if they want too.

I think that's a great idea. Especially if you can give then some treats at the new place and make it very pleasant and rewarding to be there. Maybe bring something with the scent of home and you as well. Good luck!
I like that idea. Thanks. One is better at adjusting (sugar baby) and one is super hyper. But, I finally have the hyper kitty going in the carrier for food. And, the girl used to BOLT at the sight of the carrier. I think she was in one too long at the shelter. She has not forgotten.

Surf safely, Mocha!

Slow introduction is a great idea, especially if you can get a bit of cat furniture or something they're used to over there.
Great idea also!

They have their vinyl cat houses but they tend to be used daily....but I may be able to move one of the two.

There is also this roll out upholstered piece that I have had on end so they use it to jump up to our windows on the 2nd floor to see out. They both love it. I was going to ditch it (for space reasons) but then thought it is a spare bed if need be and it is one of the few things they are "attached to."

Our new place has floor to ceiling windows on the 11th floor looking over a golf course and toward the city. So, feel bad they can't see the leaves flying by or even birds. But, the sun will be amazing coming thru on them. I hope they adjust well. No more door bells to be rang (they hate that!). I think I will aim to take them once a day so that the 2nd cat gets to a point to not urinate immediately in the carrier because that will be a problem otherwise on moving day. Want her to be dry. I do have the wee pads and I can layer them but would rather she have a nice cozy DRY blanket she likes.

I think you mean in the carrier right? Sugar baby will be good with a blanket as she is quiet in one, due to all her vet visits. Car rides don't even bother her. Thankfully, it is only 4 miles to the other home so going back and forth is a good thing for them to adjust to. Need to get the 2nd to stop urinating in anxiety. I have an anxiety liquid I will put on her when we go and definitely moving day.

I have used a blanket to partially cover the carrier because I think they do feel safer under cover, even in a carrier. I will of course have lights on where I put them during the move. They love breaking into our crawl space and I decided that is the best quiet place to have some music on and little will be moved from the basement/beyond their door. That will be their last break in! To be stuck in the space they always wanted to get too. I never let them in because of all the dust and dirt. At one time there was fiberglass insulation on the walls inside and I ripped it out but I don't want them loose in there on moving day.

Those that are more knowledgeable, it looks to me like she has made huge progress with clearing bounces as of late. Say 2 cycles or so, instead of several days?

This would seem to mean that she is getting close to settling in on the dosing with less severe bouncing? Trying to read the tea leaves.

6 years ago we moved from NJ to AZ and I drove with both cats for 2.5 days. Last year we moved again and the first few days they hissed at each other (which they never do). Having things that smell like them/you certainly helps. Now they just love this house.

How do you deal with the water/litter/food issue when they are in a carrier? I have one that has a clip on for water inside and another side for food but not for the 2nd cat and I would not want it spilled all over and soaking them. PLUS, I have to wrap them in a blanket and drop them gently in the opening.

Instead of keeping them in the carriers, how about a room that doesn't have much furniture to move out of it? You could get it mostly clear before the movers come, put the cats in there until everything is out, and then just plop them in the carriers for the ride to the new place?

I left a day before the movers from NJ to AZ with the cats. On the 3 day trip, doodles stayed in his carrier (door was open) Moo hid under the seat and they didn't drink, eat or potty (although they had everything available) until we rested at a hotel.

This last time, we cleared a room out put them in there until it was time to bring them to the new place which was only 30 minutes away not 3000 miles!

One thing I found useful for Magellan when he moved here was a product called "comfort Zone" it comes as a collar, a spray that you can put on things and a diffuser that you can plug into a wall.

Beautiful BLUE, not so welcome RED, followed by Pretty in PINK......well, I think it is time for a GREEN but probably a YELLOW will be thrown in the mix. But, please no BLACK!

I do have a few Felliways in stock for this purpose. I used a collar on the more skittish girl one time and it was flaking and made her itch. The room one they both like and funny that they both will smell at a plug plate that had a Felliway. I suppose the scent remains on the plate?

I keep trying to think where it would be safe and they not escape. I just don't think that is possible unless after the basement is emptied, I let them out in the basement but then I have to round them up again and I have to figure that out and be sure I can find them. They like to hide under things and behind the bookcase and that will be gone. So, not sure that they will feel any safer exposed. I keep thinking about it though and appreciate any and all comments because I am in an unknown territory and especially with a sugar baby, I am more nervous.

I keep trying to figure this out but I don't want them to be let out the front door. I first thought put them in a bathroom but we only have two and a mover could open the door and out they go! One is horrified of people! And, they don't get along that great together, so no safety in numbers to have them loose in one bathroom together. Hmmmmmm.

I think it lingers on surfaces so it would make sense that the cats would detect it, when we cannot.

I guess you got the rabies situation settled. It might help them if you can put a piece of furniture your taking and put it in the room you will put them in at the new house. It will help them to recognize something familiar, hopefully something they can sit on or in.

Put a sign on the bathroom door that says DO NOT OPEN and tell the movers over and over again or get someone to "stand guard" lol
Maybe if the sign say "BOA CONSTRICTOR LOOSE! DO NOT OPEN!" Now, that would make me feel certain or "RATTLESNAKE, BEWARE, KEEP OUT!" :p:confused::blackeye::arghh::smuggrin: Can you tell I don't trust people to read a sign. Worked in education a long time and this is a frustration I have.

How about the yellow Caution Tape? Yes, on the reading thing. I have a sign at my front door - DO NOT RING BELL OR KNOCK...call XXX . People still do both and yes...I say to them "guess you can't read"...urg. People suck lol

We are not getting any new furniture, so I think this will help. But, I will take their favorite chair to sit on, so it is there when they have their "test visits." Mocha went to jump on said piece today and it was missing and she looked @ me like WHAT?!

Kinda funny, the crawl space (their break-in prone space) had BOTH of them in it today at the same time. They got along fine in their roaming around in mischief together. I think they will be safest there with all the lights on and some tunes.

I'm thinking that the 115 this morning could very well have been coming up from a lower number in the wee morning hours. Why give you low numbers when you are awake if Mocha can do it in the middle of the night?! LOL.

It looks to me like a new bounce today - basically all the way up to tonight. Get a good night's sleep and start fresh in the morning.

I think it looks like she is clearing bounces in 2 days right now. From the pm cycle of the 6th to the pm cycle of the 8th.

For moving, I like the idea of the master bathroom (the movers really shouldn't need to move anything in there) with yellow caution tape over the door. The boa constrictor sign idea is pretty smart too!

I wish there was a "master bath." We only have a "jack and jill." The original owners did so to get a laundry upstairs. So, there is no other bathroom upstairs and it is freely accessible from the other rooms which have sufficient furniture to remove (master, 2nd and 3rd bedrooms). There is not a room with limited access. The 1/2 bath on the main is really small and they would not do well with all the noise constantly. Noise really bothers them and voices. The most protection is inside the crawlspace door. It is still a level space until well past the hvac and our pantry. But, rounding them up after the stress of the noise may be difficult. I have already been given "advice" from my hub (who has a post concussion) that he can't deal with the movers and me being distracted by the cats. I know that I have to manage the removal but moreso the unloading directions. I will label all the pieces and the boxes already have colored labels for the majority of rooms, or just the name (ran out of colors). He wants me to make sure the landing of the placement is correct also because we both have physical issues with lifting. Nothing like being everything to everyone....but that is what us kitty people have to do. Will get through this. Looking forward to the post that I survived it all frankly.:joyful:
