? Mitz needs a dental. What should I ask the vet beforehand?

So Miss Dragonbreath needs her teeth cleaned (and hopefully nothing else!). My regular vet can fit us in on Tuesday and says she can guarantee Mitz will be the first patient of the day so she won't have to sit in a cage and be stressed all day. I wish I had asked her more about anesthesia and monitoring during the procedure but I really don't know what to ask. There's also a veterinary dental specialist in the area who could take her in 2 weeks. It sounds like they have state of the art equipment and monitoring capabilities and they say the have lots of experience with senior pets with other health issues. I'm sure that also comes with a state of the art price tag. I'll ask for estimates from both tomorrow, but if anyone can help me come up with a list of other critical questions, I'd really appreciate it.

Here's a lot of Information on Dental Procedures

It's important that no matter which way you go that you make sure they can do x-rays....a lot of problems are under the gums where you can't see them any other way

We don't have any specialists within 400 miles, so had our regular vet do it....still cost over $700
 
ask them about after care, insulin adjustments if not eating normal amount of food, pain meds and antibiotics, definitely the xrays- totally saved us! keep us updated :-)
 
I'd ask about how long before the procedure you have to stop feeding. I believe this varies from vet to vet (mine wants to do anesthesia on an empty stomach). And what to do re. insulin that morning. I'm sure others on the forum can give you god advice about that, but it would be good to know what the vet suggests too, even if they don't require removing all food within so many hours.
