It has been a long time since I posted. I just thought I would do a quick update. After trying a bunch of different approaches (Dr. Hodgkins, protocol, TID dosing, dental)Missy is still not very well regulated, but we seem to be finding a good dose for her. Still a huge dose, but it seems like it's working.
She has been tested for acromegaly and IAA. Negative for both. I don't have the acro numbers handy, but her IAA was only 1 where <20 is normal. She had an ultrasound. No signs of pancreatitis or IBD or anything else on the ultrasound. Her blood work for the for pancreatitis also showed no evidence of pancreatitis. No toxmoplasmosis.
I had done research on dragonflies as a vector for disease, since Missy was eating a bunch of them everyday when she went OTJ. I found the Potomac Horse Fever can be transmitted by dragonflies and that there have been sporadic reports of cases in dogs and cats. (Merck Veterinary Manual) So, I had her tested for that. Actually they did a full tick panel. She was negative for PHF, but, and this is very interesting, she tested positive for Lyme disease. This is not to say she has active disease, but she is going on antibiotics and then we will recheck the tick titers.
No saying if this is why she fell of the 'wagon', but it is worth a try. After 4 solid months of doing great, something had to have changed and we have found nothing until this. I have hope, but not going to get it up too high, a since she is still overweight and I know that adds to insulin resistance. But, I have some hope this may help.
Well, just thought I would update as I have not posted here very often over the last 6-8 months. She seems happy and doing well, just overweight.
Hope all your babies are doing well!
