Liver labs elevated but stable lower Pred. Albumin 4.0(2.5-3.9); Tot Pro hi norm; alt 226(10-100); alk po4 212 (6-102); BUN 56(14-36); cr norm 2.1;  WBC 25.1, 3.5-16; plt 181(plt clumped.)
Recall glucose started in April as 416, week later 253, now 239, with fructosamine mid range norm :-D 360, with norm range being 142-450, says < 500 good regulation, although all we have done was decrease her Pred, just classics of FF food with instinct she already ate, stopped Laxatone and canned plain pumpkin no insulin. Is she borderline or?

2week abx shot for uti count
We talked most of WBC and indication of infection, neutrophils 21837; norm range 2500-8500

All other bloodwork normal, Missy's liver labs have been elevated quite a while that's stable. Hmm and never discussed her urine either :oops:
 
Those WBC and neutrophil numbers definitely indicate an infection. Did your vet indicate what it could be and prescribe any antibiotics? From the urine test and physical exam they should be able to figure out what was going on. In diabetics the most likely causes are a urinary tract infection or an infection in the mouth. Infections will also cause higher blood glucose levels so getting that under control will help improve her glucose levels even more.

Did your vet give Missy Denamarin for her liver values?

Since her glucose levels at the vets are down in the 200's with the lower pred dose, curing the infection could get her back into the normal ranges which would be great. It sounds from your post that the vet didn't indicate what the cause was or provide any antibiotics. If that's the case you should ask them about that again.
 
Oh doh! I just saw your vet did give her antibiotics :-D That is good and I bet it will improve her glucose levels even more when you go back for a recheck

Thanks Mooch she's been on Denamarin for years. As well as Pred 2.5 mg which now is just twice a week.

I am still confused about the fructosamine test as thought would express range of glucose, not one number 360 if her sugar would be high, but serum gluc was 239, definitely right direction. Confused as this all has just been in weeks. She's only had one uti in her life I think, have had her since 7-8 weeks or so. Not on insulin at all maybe good if it came down so easily? Just minimal food tweaks, hold the gravy thanks :smile: most everything we give was already low carb but the dry nailbite_smile which she doesn't eat much, mostly likes canned anyway. Also stopped Laxatone but if numbers are good.. Maybe?
 
The fructosamine measures the overall average glucose level over the last ~3 weeks so it's consistent with the spot checks your vet has done. It doesn't any info about the range of blood glucose levels but it's a good way to check averages if you don't test at home as if cats get stressed at the vets their spot check readings can be higher than normal.

Prednisone often causes diabetes in cats so that I'd probably what happened with Missy and reducing her dose is helping the diabetes and her glucose levels. All the things you are doing with the food is good too and is helping. I'm not sure what Missy was on prednisone for but if you can keep reducing the dose and use other treatments if possible that will help.

UTI's are very common in diabetics with high glucose levels as the sugary urine creates a perfect breeding ground for bacteria.

The reason I asked about thd Denamarin is that Missy's BUN was fairly high compared to her creatinine level. That can be a sign of a GI bleed or bleeding stomach ulcer which is a possible side effect of Denamarin. This happened to my cat Freckles because I didn't realise that the tablets had to be given whole as they have a protective coating on them so they can pass through the stomach without dissolving. If the coating is broken of the tablets are broken or crushed they will dissole in thd stomach and can cause an ulcer. Blood from a stomach ulcer will cause the BUN/creatinine ratio to raise and their poop will turn a darker colour. Freckles was almost black. Luckily I realised something was wrong quickly because of thd weird poop and there was no permanent damage done.

Usually if kidney issues cause a raised BUN the creatinine would be high too. Dehydration can cause just the BUN to rise but because of the Denamarin I'd definitely ask thd vet about that.
 
Missy's 18 and her kidney levels have fluctuated off and on, sometimes triggered vets concern and then next time was near normal. Don't have prior results, but know right now his concern was the WBC. As to Denamarin I don't cut it, give whole, and usually swallows right off, other times spits on counter and I give back to her :lol:

Her poop was dark with diarrhea figured from constipation, was better yesterday. Will discuss that too, actually thought like digested blood (human health field here)
He's not in today but will call tomorrow as prefer to talk with him if not emergency, Her h/h were mid norm so they are ok.
 
That sounds good and hopefully Missy will be over the infection soon and that'll really help her diabetes and kidneys
 
so hope so, on regular pc now finally got picture resized to accept as avatar. want to upload spread sheet thing to keep record
