Missing shots?

Hi, just curious about feedback on missing shots if needing to go out of town.
Obviously it's not ideal to miss any, but I am the only one that can touch my cat- so there's no option for someone else to give her shots (Vet can't touch her either).
She is on 1 unit. I need to go out of town, but it would mean she would miss 2 or 3 shots.

Hello and welcome!

It sounds like you don’t have any options except missing 2-3 shots since you say your vet can’t handle her. Your cat will obviously have higher BG during that time of the missed shots.

For some cats, it would be not good, but they could weather it. For others it could be dangerous. You don’t have a spreadsheet with your blood glucose data on it that I can see, so I can’t see what kind of BG numbers your kitty is usually in. What kind or preshot numbers do you get before giving the insulin? What kind of nadirs (lowest BG number in the each cycle) do you usually see on this 1 unit dose?

Also (and very important) do you test for ketones at home (either with a blood ketone meter or ketone urine test strips.) If your cat has ketones on the higher side then it could be dangerous to skip the shots due to the risk for diabetic ketoacidosis. Your cat doesn’t have a history of DKA or ketones, I hope?

Any chance you can take your cat with you on this trip?
