Miss kitty went to the vet

Took her to vet today at 2pm could get in yesterday.she is diabetic for sure.this vet office has more than one vet working there and I got one that wanted to do all kinds of tests and bloodwork acting like miss kitty really needed like on death bed.but made them only do blood work for glucose to get her started on insulin and they said they would call it into pharmacy some kind of pen thing kind $80 for 1month supply.Then I get to pharm a couple hrs later and they forgot to call it in.so I call them and they call it in but the person who fills the pens isn't there til Monday and the vet wouldn't call me in a regular bottle of insulin cause she didn't think I could give pull a 1/2 unit!!she was being a b$"?$!if I got it at any other pharm it would cost over $200!then vet says miss kitty will be fine 2 more days without insulin on special diet.she contradicted herself.she acted like miss kitty needed so many tests that her organs could be failing etc.then says that!money hungry people .im so upset from talking to her.Im planning on switching to a different vet for sure.my mother went with me and she was mad at that vet too.

do you need a vet to call in insulin or can you just get it online or get it yourself without script as long as it is animal insulin?

Hi Beth. Sorry you're having problems getting the insulin. How is Miss Kitty doing? Have you gotten her on a low carb diet? This would be a good time to do that. I'm guessing your vet prescribed either Lantus or Levemir since your talking about a pen. You do need a prescription for those. If you can't get it before Monday, make sure to keep testing her for ketones. Keep us posted.

If you are in Canada yo can go to aa pharmacy and get a human insulin like Lantus or Levemir without a script.
An animal insulin like ProZine requies a script.
In the USA good human insulins like Levemir and Lantus requires a script.
The human insulin N/NPH does not require a script in the USA but only lasts 8-10 hours and is not recommended
Animal insulins also require a script.

Good insulin are the human Lantus and Levemir and the pet insulins ProZinc and BCP PZI. For those two human insulin it is best to get the 5 pack of 3 ml disposable pens via a 10 ml vial. Although per ml the vial is less expensive most cats will not use up a 10 ml vial before the insulin goes bad/becomes ineffective. The human insulin N/NPH is sometimes prescribed but only lasts 8-10 hours. Same for the pet insulin Vetsulin/Caninisulin.
