I'm in shock right now. My non-sugar kitty just passed away. She hadn't been to the vet in long while, but has always seemed very healthy. She'd been playful, happy, and spent most of the morning curled up in my arms, purring like crazy.
I left for 20 minutes to run to CVS to pick up a bag of sugar and some ketone stix. When I got home, she was unconscious on the floor. I rushed her to the emergency vet. They suspect some sort of major cardiovascular event or possibly electrocution. While she was trying to breathe on her one once intabated (sp), she had no cranial reflexes at all, other than her tongue. The vet was very compassionate in discussing options. She's a cat owner herself, and I finally just asked her what she would do. She gently said that if it were her kitty, it would be time. So, I said goodbye and was with Miss Belle in her final moments. It turns out, there was a great deal of blood in her lungs, which the vet said was confirmation I'd made the right decision... the chances of saving her would have very slim to none.
I'm home now, and I've checked over the christmas tree (which I had left on since I would be gone for such a short period of time. I did unplug the space heater.) and I can't find any bite marks on any of the cords.
She was the best girl kitty in the whole world and I just can't believe she's gone. 15 hours ago, she was gleefully chasing her laser pointer. I jokingly said to her not two days ago that I bet should live to 20. 15 I never thought in a million years I'd be saying goodbye to her before I had to say goodbye to Willie. I'm hoping that this loss and his grieving don't affect his progress.
I'm just in shock. It doesn't even seem real.
