I received the Mirataz order today - Torky has a lot of food cravings, I make a Swedish buffet for cats every day until he likes something!!! I gave half the dose in both ears (inside). After an hour when I tried to test him - DISASTER!
I have done many tests so far (you can see them in SS) and he is a very cooperative cat, it is easy to do them. Now I've stung the poor kitten 7 times - and I've ruined as many tests. Effectively, I could not collect the drop, which dissipates quickly. The poor cat sat motionless and let me do so many stings.
After I administered Mirataz, he ate really well. But what do I do with the testing?

In addition, in the last week he had a cold, now he seems to be better. I haven't taken him to the vet, he is already taking antibiotics (clindamycin), colloidal silver and colostrum (for immunity), I don't see what they could give him more. He has a bad habit of sleeping on the floor and that's probably where the problem lies. I managed to get him to sleep in safer places, covered as much as possible (I made a tent out of a blanket!!!) and he doesn't seem to sneeze anymore and his eyes don't run too much. The third eyelid also became visible - but it also seems to have shrunk since yesterday.:(

I keep miritaz on hand at all times for both of boys, because they both pull the I'm not eating card quite a bit. When I put the mirtaz on the inside edge of there ears, I don't use the full dose & I only put it in one ear. For Panzer I put it in his left ear because I always use his right ear for testing because his left ear doesn't bleed well. I suggest you use a warm wash cloth on the ear that you use the most for testing & gently clean it. I also gently clean the ear I'm using again for miritaz after 24hrs if I need to apply more miritaz. Generally Panzer only needs it every so often but Torky may need it every 24hrs until you can get him eating again. If your not using a náusea medication as well I would get one. I use Ondansetron which is a human prescription that your vet will have to write for you. My vet gives me a script for 30 4mg Ondansetron & if my boys need it I give it to them every 12hrs or as needed. You will want to call around at your pharmacys & use the goodrx coupon because it can be very pricey at some pharmacies. I get mine at Meijer for $12.38.

Thanks for the reply. I had the same problem during the afternoon test - then I wiped his ears well and had no more problems. It is probably a substance in this gel that facilitates transdermal absorption - the drop of blood actually spread and I could not collect it.
Torky is not nauseous, he has stomatitis and it is probably not comfortable for him to eat even when he is somewhat under control. He was on corticosteroids for years, they induced diabetes and affected his kidneys and heart. Now I don't give it anymore, I keep it in a fragile balance with various supplements and Metacam (minimum dose). He only eats what he wants at that moment - the problem is that he doesn't want the same thing every day: if today he eats something, tomorrow he doesn't want it anymore and I have to try until he eats. The problem is not that he can't swallow - because when he finds something he likes, he eats it (but something else, with the same consistency, he refuses).
Today, after half a dose of Mirataz, he ate everything I gave him! I will give him another quarter of the dose tomorrow morning.

Hard work!

I'm glad that helped you to clean the testing ear off & you got blood. I know my boy is sometimes very hard to get blood especially @AMPS test. I used to think it was due to him being low but it happens when he's higher as well. I sometimes have to rewarm his ear put more Vaseline on it & use a new lancet. It's frustrating when you can't get that blood because it's a must especially before insulin.
I can relate on the not eating as well. My non sugar boy is more difficult than my sugar boy sometimes. I don't have any diagnosis for him other then his kidney numbers were a little high on his last blood draw but he was dehydrated & that could have affected his numbers. They are both due for bloodwork but I have no $ for that right now. I try to figure out if Spook my non sugar boy is just being picky or nauseous, it's hard to tell. I skipped Ondansetron for both of them today & he didn't want to eat unless I put fortiflora on his food @+7 AMPS feeding. I decided to put Mirataz on his ear @+10 AMPS & he ate no problem! It's a daily battle with my cats but we do what we gotta do for our babies. It is very hard work!

He is a little pig! I just prepared 2 bowls of food for him: one with a very good canned food - Schesir Wet Food Tuna with Shrimps, in which I put Reconvalis Cardio - his supplement for the heart with taurine, and another with finely chopped chicken breast (made in 1 minute on the grill). I gave him the can first. He smelled it, didn't even taste it, and went to the kitchen, where he got on the table and ate all the meat!

PS Reconvalis Cardio is a palatable syrup - the first week he simply licked it, he liked it. Now he doesn't want it anymore, it has to be "hidden" in the food!

PS 2 - Torky doesn't like Fortiflora! I have to give him now because he is on antibiotics. And this must be "hidden" in the food!
