Just found out on 5/1/15 my 10 year old rescue cat was diagnosed with diabetes. Rescued him in
sept. 2014 and had blood work done & everything was ok until he started drinking & peeing. This
only started in April. Just came out of the blue!! Very stressed!!

Welcome. Treading diabetes can stress full at the start.
Have you started insulin yet? The best insulins are the human Lantus and Levemir and the animal insulins Prozinc and BCP PZI. The human insulin N/NPH and animal Vetsulin/Caninsulin are really not the best for cats since they only last 8-10 hours.
What are you feeding? A low-carb, canned, commercia food like one of these

is best. No reason for a prescription diet.
Most of use here test our cat's blood glucose level. BG using a human meter and record the results with other information in a spreadsheet that can be viewed by other here. Here is how to create the SS.

Welcome to FDMB, the best place you never wanted to be.

There are 4 things you'll need to manage your kitty's diabetes:
- You - without your commitment, the following won't work
- Low carb over the counter canned or raw diet, such as Friskies pates. See Cat Info for more info,
- A long-lasting insulin such as ProZinc, Lantus, BCP PZI, or Levemir
- And home blood glucose monitoring with an inexpensive human glucometer such as the WalMart Relion Confirm or Target Up and Up (the pet ones will break your budget!)
