Excellent! She’s looking better. Looks like she might keep you up a bit tonightIt’s cute- I notice when Mimi seems brighter and more playful is when her blood sugar is in the greens.
LO is dependent on the meter.I just smeared a drop of Karo syrup on her gums and fed her double her LC... she got LO then 48- because I’ve never seen Lo on the meter before![]()
Ok I didn’t want to give too much. Shall I wait and test or give her more. I also have some MC that I can let her lick the gravy off of since she did just gobble a ton of meat and it’s sticking with the raw dietLO is dependent on the meter.
Be sure you gave her more than just a smear of karo. Usually for a number in the 30s, I’d give 4-5 good drops in food. Retest in 20 minutes.
Good. No more karo but you’ll need to monitor her for two hours to be sure she doesn’t drop again after the karo wears off.Just retested 15 minutes later- got 66
Read on freestyle website that LO means below 20!!!!?? But there’s LO reading with symptoms and without. The one without (which is what I’m experiencing) said to retest again and I did and it got 48.
I almost wasn’t going to test to!!!Good. No more karo but you’ll need to monitor her for two hours to be sure she doesn’t drop again after the karo wears off.
Anytime you get a reading that low, retest quickly, so if it is LO, you can get karo in her quickly. Good job! You did great thinking quickly and doing the right thing.
Any time the +1 is lower than or similar to the PS, you absolutely want to test by +2 at the latest.I almost wasn’t going to test to!!!Thought about waiting till it was +3 since I did a +1, but I’m guessing if she’s new to lower preshot numbers it’s probably wise to test every hour right? She’s acting totally normal but that’s because cats are so good at hiding things.

If it were me, I’d test 30 mins after the 66. If she’s still going up, I’d give it an hour.
As soon as you respond, I’m headed to bed.
Thanks for taking the 911 down.![]()

Pls see my post #11 as I added a few things.Ok thanks Marje!!!
If she starts dropping again- do I go back to adding syrup or should I try a MC or HC I have on hand?
Ok so do the canned not the raw if she’s below 50s? If she’s in the 50s (for future) should I give her a MC or HC food or only do that when I see her dropPls see my post #11 as I added a few things.
Depends on how much she drops. If she drops into the 40s, I’d definitely give HC. Be sure you give the food 30 mins to work or else you’ll overcarb her. However, if she drops in the 39s, give gravy and a couple drops karo and retest in 15-20 as that stuff works faster.
If she drops into the 40s use HC gravy or you can try raw with a drop or two of Karo.Ok so do the canned not the raw?

I don't think she's on anymore...I've been waiting around to help if she needs itRosa, if Mimi is hard to come up, do a big smear on gums.
Hope all is okay.

in case she is on soon.
I'm right there with ya. How long has it been since HC and karo?Omg I fell asleep hard. I just tested- it’s been one hour since I tested and it’s now up to 120. So
Tired I’m delirious
Well I feed her all night - so she eats all day every 2-3 hours- is what not normal? Should there be a point where they are fasting? In theory, you're 30 min away from "peak activity" of the insulin. I still wouldn't let my guard down because she dropped quite drastically when the food wore off. Don't feed her anymore and re-test in 30 min to see where she's at.
I like to get 2 rising #s that aren't food related at 30min intervals. Then I test again in an hour. If that # is still rising I allow Moey to have his food back(he free feeds overnight). Then I set the alarm for 2 hours and go from there. During the day the procedure is a little different because he's on a feeding schedule.
I’m sorry I passed out HARD. My brain and body were like “ya, nope, you’re done”I took the 911 down.
I didn't mean to confuse you with my approach to handling low #s with Moey. The way you feed Mimi is purrfectly fine. You should fast her about 2 hours prior to test time. When dealing with low #s, what you're trying to see(by "fasting") is a non-food influenced # that is rising on it's own. This is just what I do...when steering with food you have to withhold food at certain points to see if low #s are coming up on their own w/o food assistance. For example I got a 42 with Moey last night. I carbed him up with a specified amount of food(which he finished). He only gets the MC/HC food I offer him nothing else. Pick up any remaining food(there nvr is any left) and test in 30min. The next # I got, 60, was a rising #. So, I didn't feed and re-tested in 30min. I got 66 which could be the same as the prior 60(meter variance). Again, I didn't feed and tested again in 30min. Once I got that 68, I was super tired and decided to give him his LC food back(his overnight free feed). I waited to test in an hour and got the 86. I called it a night. I probably should have kept withholding food when I got the 68, for an hour, just to ensure he really was coming up on his own w/o food influence. I was tooo tired at that point to continue testing and made a judgement call. I felt he was coming up, so that's that.Well I feed her all night - so she eats all day every 2-3 hours- is what not normal? Should there be a point where they are fasting?
I wish I was a SS interpreter. It does appear she was on the road to clearing a bounce. JMOWhy do you guys think she dropped so early on in the cycle? Was it because she was clearing a bounce before?
You'll get a better understanding with time. I'm still learning tooI think I need to understand bouncing more than I do- like how to immediately tell that’s what’s going on, or is that something I’ll get with experience?
Yep...we're all sleep deprived to an extent. It's just part of ensuring your sweet one's safety.Everyone on here does it or has done it!
I suppose it is. Could you imagine? I'd rather deal with my kitties than a screaming babyThis must feel a tiny bit what it’s like to have a newborn?!

I was so tired, during one of the alarms to test her I put the meter to her ear to prick her instead of the lancet device. I also did a couple of other things where I thought to myself “omg Rosa, WAKE UP”I didn't mean to confuse you with my approach to handling low #s with Moey. The way you feed Mimi is purrfectly fine. Sorry for the long explanation, that probably doesn't make sense...I'm still half asleep LOL!!!!!!!!!
