Hi! My name is Amy and I recently took in my fathers' cat, Millie. My mother (and Dad's wife of 59 years) died in January and my father was unable to 'do right' by Millie anymore. He was ready to euthanize her when I stepped in and found out she is diabetic. Having 8 other cats, some with special needs, I jumped at the chance to save Millie's life. I'm learning quite a lot on this thread and the FB page about setting up and managing DM. Mill's just started 1 unit/bid. It's a learning curve but my Sugar Cookie and I are making it work!

Welcome to FDMB, the best place you never wanted to be.

There are 4 things you'll need to manage your kitty's diabetes:
- You - without your commitment, the following won't work
- Low carb over the counter canned or raw diet, such as Friskies pates. See Cat Info for more info,
- A long-lasting insulin such as ProZinc, Lantus, BCP PZI, or Levemir
- And home blood glucose monitoring with an inexpensive human glucometer such as the WalMart Relion Confirm or Target Up and Up (the pet ones will break your budget!)
