Hi All,

Mikey spent the day the spare bedroom again. He ate everything that was in the feeder, and he was less ticked off about being confined. I'm feeling kind of discouraged tonight. I don't really understand what's going on with him. Obviously that fur shot wasn't a good thing, but I really don't like these numbers. I keep telling myself that I'm doing the best I can, and I can't control what I can't control, but my poor Mikey. He deserves better.

The one upside to all this is that there's no way I can attend the school Christmas party this weekend with needing to monitor him so closely, right! (The answer is "right" no matter what you think it is! I don't want to go.) Thank you, Mikey! :lol: :lol: :lol:

For those who don't know (everyone other than Marje lol) my cats teach my class. We've even been on Animal Planet in the Scottish Fold episode of Cats 101.

Mikey teaches grammar and writing. This week's writing project is a persuasive letter. The cats have decided that we should do school work on the day before Christmas vacation, so we're writing them to convince them to throw a Meowy Christmas Party for us on that day instead. The kids adore Mikey and DK. I've taught them about Mikey's diabetes, and how they can prevent diabetes in their own bodies. It's a Christian school, so Mikey comes up as a prayer request almost daily. It's so cute. OK, I'm done rambling now. :-D

*whew* that was a close call! i nearly fell off into Youtube Land . . . watched your video, which was great! Nice to see Mikey earning his keep! Then I had to watch the suggested one on Maine Coons, which is what punkin was. Best cat ever!

Back to mikey, though. Is he still refusing to eat the 8% food? back to the 3% now?

Yes, he's still refusing the 8%! And he just took a big dive! Giving him 3% now. Should I see if he would eat a little 8%? It's unlikely, but I could try. Stink'ear.

Yes, I have plenty of strips, hc food and karo. And I will test at +2.5. I guess I have learned something!

doggone. 180 points in 2 hrs. it might already be fast enough to trigger another bounce, but i'd add a little honey or karo to the lc to slow him down.

+149 at 2.5. I gave him some LC with a drop of honey. I think you're right that our RB is going to bounce, Julie. I've got to figure a way to get him to eat an 8% or so food again. Stink'ear.

I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Maine Coons are awesome. Don wants one someday.

all cats are fun, but i've had several cats and Punkin definitely had personality plus. Very people-communicative - he had this gaze that we called his "psychic" stare - willing you to do his bidding! hahahaha. When we went to the pound to get another cat, i was hoping for another maine coon but didn't see any kittens that were obviously that. Our other kitty, Anya, is such a cranky princess that we thought we wouldn't be able to get another adult cat. We got the 2 and they are wonderful, of course.

he's slowed down enough now i don't think you need to add any sugar to his food.

Punkin sounds a lot like my beloved Wally, the black and white you saw on the video. He used to give us that same psychic look, and Don would say, "You're Jedi mind tricks won't work on me." Of course, then he'd give in and give Wally anything he wanted.

Note to self: Try really hard not to freak out when he bounces tomorrow. What on earth an I going to do with this cat? He needs to eat that 8%. I'm going to look around for other options around that percentage.
 
i'd stop feeding him anything extra beyond his normal meals at this point. The +4 could even be in response to the extra food. I'm thinking optimistically that he WON'T BOUNCE THIS TIME! HEAR ME, MIKEY?!? ;-)

Sounds good. I didn't feed him anything after the last test. Do you think we can use Wally's Jedi mind tricks to keep Mikey from bouncing? I keep telling him that I love the number 100, and he should get there and stay there forever. The blue looks great with his fur.
 
It would work if Wally was here! He was "The One Who Must Be Obeyed". Everyone did whatever he demanded. The only exception was when he wanted the woodstove lit in July. It was the one time he heard the word "no".

Good Job, Mary. You've got it down on how to deal with his dives.

I can't believe I haven't seen that video before. (((Wally and Duncan)))). Mikey and DK were great with their grooming. Awesome video and all four boys looked wonderful. Quite the actors!
 
Wish you could have met my Donovan, who was the best of both worlds: Scottish Fold and Maine Coon. Yup, it shouldn't have happened, but I'm very glad that it did.

Hope you're able to stop by the cat show this weekend so I can meet you :smile:

Looks like while Mikey was taking a nose dive last night Webster was hanging out three to five hundreds. There must have been a miss communication somewhere. :-D

It seems as if Mikey is still more interested in the 3% carb food? You may have already mentioned this but what amount are you feeding him and on what schedule? How much does he weigh?

I've been focusing on finding a feeding schedule that is going to help minimize Websters bounces. I'm going to alter the timing and amount of food every few days until I find something that works.

Like Mikey, Webster is on a food that has a lower carb content (5%). If I'm unable to keep him from bouncing all the time by altering his feeding times/amounts, I'm going to consider switching to a 7%-10% food and feeding him less.

So far, he hasn't fallen hard in over 36 hours - However, this is likely because his Lantus dose is too low and will need to be adjusted in the next cycle or so.

What are the show hours this weekend? I'm hoping Mikey will let me go.

Someone must not have gotten the memo! :-D Either that, or it's part of some even more sinister plot! :lol:

Mikey is driving me nuts with food! I'm going to post more about that in today's condo. He weight around 7.5 lbs.

I really wish we could get these two regulated. Sigh.

9:30 am to 4 pm both days, at the Seaport Inn & Marina, 110 Middle Street, Fairhaven Massachusetts.
