OK, so yesterday when Midnight's blood sugar was 52 I had to go to work and I wanted quick advice so I posted on the main board. I thought there might be a better chance of someone seeing it there immediately. It was suggested to me to drop her dose to 0.25 units, since I have been getting several readings below 200 lately. I am not usually home or awake to retest an hour or 2 after I test her in the morning and evening. So generally I am going to have to dose based on the readings about every 12 hours. I am leaving on vacation in about 11 days and I would really like to feel comfortable with the dose before I leave since my pet sitter probably won't test. The 2 readings today were under 200 so I wasn't sure if I should give her any insulin but I was afraid if I didn't, it would go too high by morning.

Also, I have been updating my signature with food and dosing changes. So if someone looks back at posts I have made over the last couple months, it might look like she has always been on 0.5 units and EVO food, but she has not. That is just her current info.

Just updated again. Any input would be appreciated. A lot of skipped doses lately.

I think that shows why folks recommended that you drop her to .25 u - to try to give you a consistently shootable number. That's what I would do. And even though its a 200 rule - if you are going down to .25 - I'd shoot anything in the 190s for two reasons. One is that it's very close to the 200 and the second is that you're leaving town soon and need to know what a safe dose is for your sitter to give.

That 415 is almost certainly a bounce from a low number somewhere in the cycle before....so I wouldn't be concerned about it......especially because she cleared so quickly and gave you a 194 this morning.
