Micio has being having a rough day today (struggling with weakness and not being able to push to poop, legs can barely walkright now); he just ate dinner but BGs are pretty low and don't know if I should give him insuline or not?! Really don't know what to do...

Is the weakness a new thing?
Have you tested for ketones?
I am not experienced withi Acro dosing so I would rather leave that to someone who is.
Hopefully they will be along soon.
 
First, when stalling, we don't feed. Now you don't know if those 50's are because of the carbs in his meal brought him UP to that, and without that he wouldn't be safe to shoot.

You have a couple options given the circumstances. One is to wait a couple hours after he was fed to shoot (if he's up enough), or at least wait until you see the numbers rapidly rising by testing every half hour and over, say, 100. You could give either his full dose or a partial dose, depending on whether you think he'll continue to eat. The other option is a skip.

Micio didn't eat much for lunch today (he never skips a meal) I have beeing follow him around the house all afternoon to help him pass some poo and, after every attempt, he would crash on the ground, acting nauseous and his back legs weaker then ever....before I know here comes dinner time and he looked hungry and my other cat started crying for food....I tested him twice before feeding and I got 57 and 50 about 15 minutes apart...then I fed them...I meant to post for help earlier today but didn't find the time ...I know that when stalling we don't feed....all this came unexpectedly and couldn't think reasonably... I seriously though he wasn't going to make it and still, he's not good.
Just tested him and, 1-1/2 hour after a meal he's 61, don't think it is safe to give him a shot.

The back legs weakness is not new but it gotten worse lately. But him not being able to use his front paws correctly (almost like he temporary lost sensitivity and the use of them), that's not normal. He's been having troubles pooping and I tried lots of things to ease that but did't help, he just cannot push hard enough and after every time he tries he crashes and that's why I have to hold him by his back legs....and then, because of struggling, he'll get sick too and it's hard to do both things ...I'm really at loss cause I see I can't help my babies anymore
 
I wonder if a visit to the vet will help the pooing problem. Maybe there is another solution to help him.:bighug:
 
I won't speak to the BG or insulin but to the difficulty in pooping: I live with two acrokitties and they have had constipation problems at various times, the last time for one of them being quite serious and requiring a nasopharangeal tube procedure to get things moving again. All of that happened after a hyperglycemic episode. Since then I been giving daily a little PPEG3350 (stool softener) in their food. No longer a problem (6 months ago) with either of them.

I'm sorry for the difficulty Micio and you are having. It is very hard and I hope things can soon be put aright. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Finally I was able to test his urine (he wasn't peeing too often today for some reason): I run the Keto-diastick twice and both negative.

Although not a big fan of Miralax cause I know it messes around with GI tracts especially when given periodically , but I have been giving it to Micio for the last couple of days. The vet also suggested that, I saw the Dr. just last week.
Micio's on a balanced raw meat diet for 11 yrs and have been doing great but since diabetes /Acromegaly everything just went down hill quickly and, despite all of the health issues he has been through, the pooping struggle is killing him...I tried with good pro/prebiotics, fiber, egg yolk and recently I also added more fat on his diet but nothing...I mean, the poo is not superhard at all but it's large and he has troubles to push to the point he gets sick/nauseous and crash on the ground...just awful and heartbreaking

We'll see how he does tomorrow, he ate ok his midnight meal but still very unstable with his legs; he's now resting. If anything I'll have to go to the ER cause my vet is not in the office till 4 January. I really have the worst feeling about all this...and, among all, just recently found out that my other younger cat Missy's most likely heading to diabetes and kidney disease on top of her IBD and arthritis... and I'm just loosing my mind, my heart is shattering

Oh Simone, I feel that for you. I’m more sorry than I have adequate words to express.
 
I would recommend a prescription of Lactulose liquid for the constipation. I know you said his stool is not particularly hard but anything you can do to soften it may help him to pass the stool more frequently/easily. This is a terrible time of year to get any vet help though, I understand. I’m going to say some prayers for Micio.

Thanks...sorry, just saw this message. I do have Lactulose at home; awhile back, I looked for help with Micio's constipation on Raw Feeding with IBD group on FB and one of the Adm suggested that Lactulose it's safe to give to cats with diabetes (and I agreed too after reading the link she posted with studies that have been made about it) BUT, of course, my vet is totally against it cause he said Lactulose is just sugar and he suggested Miralax. I have been giving Micio Miralax but not doing much at all. I did try Lactulose once a few weeks ago and, coincidentally?, BG's went high but I will try again. All I see is that, just the action of pushing for poop, makes Micio exausted, his legs give up and his heart rate goes up. I have been giving him lots of belly massages, I watch/help him every time he goes to the bathroom, I hold him while he poop so he won't fall but sometimes he poops from laying down...don't know how else to help him though but will keep trying
 
I have been thinking about you every day. Hugs. I would continue with miralax and Lactulose both. And any other things you are doing (fiber?). I would adjust insulin as necessary. There is also a Feline Megacolon group that could probably help. I don’t know if you have already joined that group. I also believe that the stress of being constipated probably raises his BG.

Thank you Suzanne, didn't even think of looking up at a group like that...will look into it today. Strangely enough, when Micio is under stress (ie: visits to the vet) his BG's are actually lower but I think pain or his diseases flares makes it go higher.
Question: if I want to add updates (i.e.: I'm going to try Lactulose on Micio again and would like to let you know how he's doing) should I do it in this thread or where? Tnx
 
Gosh. I will be glad to hear about Micio any time. I have awakened in the morning many days thinking about Micio and how were you and he doing. I was worried. So you can send me a private message any time. We just don’t do dosing talk in private since this Board is peer reviewed. But I also think that there are many of us here who care a lot about what is going on with Micio. So you can post a new thread if you want to. On the Acro group, or the Lantus/Levemir forum. Anywhere! I think, since this thread is long, that you could just start a new one here on this forum and link the previous thread.

Hi @MICIO&Simone...I have been following your and Micio's journey and very much hoping he will feel better soon. His seems to be a complex case that absolutely needs attention from the vet... FWIW I did want to mention one of our kitties was dealing with persistent dry poops/constipation (a non-diabetic kitty). We didn't have much luck with Miralax in the past, but I added a bit of olive oil to his diet and that seems to be helping him pass better stools (I saw you were already trying to add more fat to Micio's diet to help with the constipation).

The only other thing I am wondering- with him eating 90% raw meat- is there any possible chance that there could be some vitamins or nutrients he could be low on?

This is what felineconstipation.org says about olive oil:

• Olive oil – Technically a cholagogue (see Glossary), not a lubricant laxative, olive oil has mild laxative properties when a larger dose is given. A larger dose for a cat is a small amount! For a mild bout of constipation, a quarter teaspoonful of olive oil can be given for acute treatment but cats require animal fat sources, not plant oils, so olive oil is not suitable for ongoing care. Olive oil contains terpenic acids and phenolic compounds which a cat's liver is not able to properly detoxify. Some pharmacies carry small bottles of pharmaceutical-grade olive oil. Do not force any oil into the mouth of a cat.

Thank you for the suggestions. I have Micio for over 13 yrs (he came to me when he was already 5) and he went in and out of vet clinics more times that I can count; in few occasions he got pretty bad but then he bounced back and through the years I've got to learn his strenght and knew he was going to fight and be ok.
This time is different. I know my boy pretty well to say he's very tired and he's shutting down.
As for the diet, Mico has been on raw meat diet with supplements for about 11 yrs, started with Alnutrin and then switch to EZ Complete which is even more balanced. As far as I know his values were always good on that matter and constipation issues started last year with diabetes but in the last couple of weeks it gotten very bad. He also doesn't move around anymore and that also makes it worse.
Will start a new thread about Micio soon
