Only checking the boy twice a day for awhile but his numbers seem to be dropping. This morning he had a reading of 138 so I didn't give him a shot. Tonight it was 318, so he did get a shot. So far he hasn't had a reading over 400 for the last 5 days. I'm getting hopeful.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to work with his back legs? He is still down on his hocks.

Still using Novolin N.

Try supplementing with B12 (e.g. Zobaline or Vitacost - both are diabetic-friendly methylcobalamin supplements). It helps with diabetic neuropathy. Also might be worth asking your vet to check his potassium levels.

Ideally, you want a safe dose you can give twice a day. If you're skipping shots, try reducing the dose from 1.0 units to 0.75 units - you'll have to eyeball it as syringes don't mark the 0.25 nor 0.75 increments. Or, you might consider a dose of 0.5 units roughly every 8 hours.
