Metformin (Glucophage)

I ran out of Lantus, is it safe to give my cat Metformin for a couple of days before I can get more Lantus?

That is a question for your vet to answer. Give them a call and ask as well as for a new prescription Lantus. Maybe they even have some Lantus available to sell to you. Some vets keep a few Lantus pens or vials on hand for hospitalized diabetic pets.

Can you tell us a bit more about your cat first?

I agree with @squeem3 that this is a question for the vet. Do you just happen to have Metformin around the house? More Lantus would be a better solution.

Thanks to all who responded. I was able to get Lantus insulin the next morning. Her glucose was high (24 mmol) but it's come down now to 15 mmol. She is 16 yrs old and diagnosed diabetic 3 yrs ago. She did go into remission for awhile, about 1.5 yrs, once I changed her diet to strictly Fancy Feast pate. But she came out of remission over time, for some reason, and had to go back on Lantus.

Did the vet happen to check your cat's teeth? Gingivitis or other dental issues are one of the big reasons that cats fall out of remission.
